Extended warranty

Hello All,

I'm think about purchasing a extended warranty. The last time I purchased a extend warranty I got burn. I used it one time the entire time I had it. So I'm no longer a fan. I Did a search for Extended warranty's and didn't really find the right answers. Who has a extended warranty and actually used it? What broke that was covered under warranty? Was it worth purchasing the EW for $3500?

For my situation, I already had both my turbo's and HPFP replaced last month. What else should I be worried about going bad with the 335i. I'm not sure if I should purchase one, or just take the money and save for a rainy day. If you were in my shoes what would you do?

Please help.... I have 1300 miles left on my original warranty.

Thanks in advance

I would get it , u never know what could happen you car could brake down on some major thing like transmission and that would cost a lot more then just that .

I have the BMW gold package ext. warranty....Covers everything but the Idrive...I paid around $2500 for it or so??? I got quoted an extremely low price from what it was....I used it a couple times already...The 50$ fee to bring the car in is worth it IMO....It was a good choice...PM me if you want more specific information...

Thanks

That doesn't seem like a very good deal to me, idrive is one of the most expensive components of the car if it fails, and my guess is that this doesn't cover any electrical problems. With a car that has electronics pretty much everywhere, that seems a bit inadequate for that kind of $$ spent.

It covers all electrical systems but the idrive....I dont think the price is bad at all, I had an intake temp sensor, an ignition coil and a tmap sensor go a while back, and I had my muffler replaced already due to the flap rattle and the bill already was well over what I payed for the warranty. I am trying to get the idrive coverage added onto my warranty right now though just in case. I think the BMW extended warranty is absolutely essential if you do not have a CPO'd car. Its basically the same thing except you pay $50 every time you bring your car in for work. I grease my SA with booze or cash and the guy hooks me up. I also had countless interior trim pieces replaced and also my exterior window trim replaced under warranty, no questions asked. Shits worth it, dont listen to this dude.

I guess it comes down to an individual and their ability to DIY as well. A intake temp sensor and ignition coil each cost less than the $50 deductible you're paying. A tmap sensor isn't much more ($80). I guess I just look at things differently since I do my own work. One thing to keep in mind though is if extended warranties weren't in the favor of the company offering it, then they wouldn't be offered.

They do not cost less than the $50 deductable, the ignition coil is $57 a piece from Tischer which is way cheaper....I neglected to mention that ALL of the coils were replaced, plugs as well (and whatever else they did) so that makes it a little more significant....in total that one visit would have cost me over $700 in diagnosis, labor and parts.

The level of DIY skill has nothing to do with our cars....BMW does not want you doing muuch more than brakes or an oil change on these things. Everything is designed like that, we all know that too... I mean jesus, you have to have your car programmed when you change the damn battery!

DIY is great if you have time and a nice space. I myself have a nice garage but I also travel frequently for work and only pretty much drive my cars on the weekend. Last thing I want to do is work on my car on the weekends when I should be enjoying some spirited driving....I worked on cars for fun and for money over the years, and after a while you just dont like having shit under your fingernails every single day! I will take care of the small things and minor services like oil changes, brakes, cabin filter changes and bs like that, but for the major shit-----> dealership.

I would have too if I was the original owner of my both my BMW's. Unfortunately I am not, so big deal....I have to pay $50 everytime I have a problem. If I throw my SA some cash or a nice bottle of vino, he doesnt hit me for that.......

Extended BMW warranty=cpo'd + $50 deductable!

Now buying a CPO's car and having dealers pad the hell out of the cars price for that is a scam!!!!! Matter of fact, its the greatest scam to ever grace the automotive sales world IMO.
