My first drag racing event :)

We don't have a dedicated drag racing track in my country, and every few weeks our racing associations organize "legal racing events", by cooperating with the police. A road portion is closed and transformed into a temporary track. And the fun begins

Today I participated at my first event of this kind. It was incredibly fun !

Unfortunately, the road strip had only 386m instead of 402m (1/4 mile) because the road didn't have such a big straight portion to allow both accelerating and braking. The weather was great, about 22 degrees Celsius. There were about 100 cars at the event ! The "legal racing" events are so rare that they draw people from all over the country.

My mods were BMW Performance Power Kit, Helene drop-in filter, and catless downpipes (built from the OEM ones). I was going to install my new intercooler but something came up and I delayed the install until after the event. However, since I removed the primary catalytic converters car pulls incredibly good !

My best result was a 12.242s (on the 386m strip). I managed to outrun a BMW 335d with PowerChips flash and Forge intercooler (then he beat me once but I had a bad start) and an e46 M3 with intake and modified pulley. Also a Subaru WRX with intake and flash.

I can't wait to get my GIAC S2 flash...

I have this kit and I think the BMW either won or the race was very close.

We used to do that when I was a lot younger, but NEVER with the acceptance of the police. I think the police in your country are cool, we would never be allowed to do anything like this around here

You mean you guys find it cool that the police supports drag racing events ? I think it really helps the traffic safety instead of harming anything. Instead of using the highway at night to find out if one's car is better than the other's car, why not just sort this out at a legal event (...and spend the following 2-3 weeks working on the car instead of illegal drag racing) ? At least that's what the police is thinking...

I completely agree with you and your local police, but I can assure you that no such thing will ever happen here, the public opinion is more or less that anybody who likes to race their car is irresponsible and that speed itself is the root of all evil, so in effect all young boys (and those of of us who are sligthly older, but still love to race) are potential criminals.

So instead some just drive like crazy whenever there is no police around....
