Downpipe clamp question...
I've been trying to install my new downpipes since last night, but I don't seem to be able to get the clamp to close around the downpipe and turbo. I made sure everything sits flush. Any help?
And yes, I tried turning it and rotating |

Yes, this is the hardest part. It takes FOREVER, you just have to keep adjusting it and it will eventually fit. My brother had to it.

if you remember how it was oriented "clocked" from the factory, thats the easiest and best way to position it back on, plus if you are running vk or raceland, its very possible the flange isnt round, or the flange itself is too thick or misshapen.

deffinately the hardest part of the install...
I had lots of practice on some DP's that didn't fit. Ar pipes are the easiest to mouth up and clamp though.. thats good. take a break... get you some beers, and spend 5 min trying to get it on, then take a break, then go back, then take a break. I like to leave the clamp as close to in place as I can get it, then move the mouth of the pipe into place. Keep handle of the ends that go together, and then jiggle the pipe. Keep squeezing those ends together, rotate the pipe till it clicks in place. Its a great feeling when you here that click sound. The good new also is... the more snug that clamp is, the less likely you will have a leak later on. Lift would help a lot, although I did mine on ramps... You want to rotate the clamp some too. One hand on the clamp squeezing the ends togther...one hand on the pipe holding it up so that mouth and the turbo meet flush. Your arms will get tired...... my back was black and blue for a week from laying on it with my hands up. You will have a whole new relationship with your car when your done too. She will love you back for the attention.

You have to take the bolt off to be able to get the clamp off.
So progress has been made: I managed to get both clamps on and get the downpipes hooked up to the exhaust out back. It's incredibly tight down there (lol that's what she said)... but it fits barely. Drove around for a while, the exhaust was a bit louder and growled more. Very sexy... then something happened haha. It's now incredibly loud and I can hear a fast ticking noise when giving gas... my guess is that the clamp wasn't tightened enough or something... and now it's leaking a bit. No matter, I will put the car back up tomorrow (thanksgiving making me too busy today) and see what is up. On a more positive note: pipes seem to fit well and the car feels amazing to drive (until I started sounding like a 70's pickup truck that is...) All problems I have been having have been due to faulty install. I'll post up my impressions when I get it fixed |
