Snows coming Advice on Generals

so i sold my OEM 17s with turanzas...

I'm now running 19 v701s on general exclaims.... Ive heard mixed reviews on them in snow considering their summer tires....i have heard there on the same level as the crappy RFTs...anyone have experience with them in the snow?

I dont usually ride around if theres alot of snow on the road as I'd rather stay in....keep in mind i have Xdrive.

LOL!

You're driving on SUMMER ONLY tires during the WINTER.
I don't know what ratings there are to give other than you taking a lot of chances.

Summer tires get brick hard in the winter so your traction greatly decreases, especially below 40 degrees (hence the warning sign that many BMW's give when temperatures go below 37 degrees).
If you're asking about how they do not only in the cold, but also in the snow...simple answer is:

You're putting yourself and others in danger with summer only tires during the winter. X-Drive does not come into play during braking and your lateral grip will still be horrible.

Edit.
You can get by with them, don't get me wrong...they are still rubber tires, but that's like saying "you can get by with a spare donut tire on each corner as well".

yeah man, you drive an awesome car so why risk loosing it because of taking a risk on tires. Hopefully you just wouldn't have to go out when its snowing or get caught in a snow storm this winter. You will be okay on dry roads but you'll have to grandma it...

Summers are made of compound that is made for the summer... driving them in the winter will essentially turn it into something close to plastic. Not only that, you'll ruin the chemistry of the summer tire where by you will decrease the entire lifespan of them.

I had a similar problem, I built my car with the msport package which came with performance summer tires, so i had to look at another winter set because i like to have the best of both worlds... all season tires isn't the best of both worlds and summer tires in the winter is def. the worst of that world.

Good luck
Duncan.

While meeting minimum tread design standards to be "M+S" branded, the Exclaim UHP is designed to provide high levels of traction, response and control in dry conditions, along with superior hydroplaning resistance in wet conditions. We do not suggest Exclaim UHP tires be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Are you that cash poor? A lot of used snow tire set going for around $500-800...

It is your life that you are risking.

Oh.. and I have NO IDEA why the heck people think they are safe when they drive an all-wheel drive, which means shxt if you do not have proper tires and traction.

I have had proper tires with my RWD drive cars for the past 10 years and been through some pretty big storms without an issue at all.

If you are not afraid of crushing, drive it in the winter.

Trust me, it is not what you see that should scare you... it is what you do not see on the road.. even if you are just taking a stroll to a grocery store 5 minutes outside of your house, your UHP will SLIP when you go on or off the ramp on any slight black ice.

Trust me, invest in a snow tire set, OR a good A/S. (Conti DWS, Michelin A/S, etc)

Even with AWD, my 535 with summer performance tires would slip badly going up my icy driveway which had a very mild slope (less than 10%).
If there was more than 6" of snow on the ground, if I stopped at the ditch where the driveway ended and the road started, I would get stuck there and would need a push.
That's how much AWD and summer tires work.

A 145-45-18 snow tire will outperform a 275-45-18 summer tire.

You have to try it to believe it.

LOL.

It always gets dramatic on e90posts.

We are just trying to emphasis the huge difference between summer and winter tires in low temperatures.

I would suggest just buying a whole winter setup for cheap, instead of looking for tires to fit your current rims. I wish I did that from the beginning. It's a pain mounting and unmounting tires, having to pay for it twice a year, risking damaging your rims when they take off the tires, etc.
If you just buy a rim and tire package for $400-$500, you can do the job yourself and whenever you want, instead of having to go to a shop and paying them for it.

Just a suggestion.
I have a set of winter tires now and I hate putting them on and taking them off. I wish I had a whole winter setup with rims and tires.

These don't look very stylish but they are only temporary for the winter and at a pretty good price IMO.

You also don't have to worry about the salt on your summer rims.

you can "get away" with all season i guess since you have Xi, but Xi doesn't help you stop... get a set of winters. You can find a set with wheels and tires for so cheap.
