Driver side mirror always aims down !
Hey everyone, I just purchased a 2006 330i and I noticed that the driver side mirror always aims down. I did a search and could not find anything related to this issue. My electronic mirror control on my door panel works ok, I can move the mirror up and down but after about 15 seconds of driving the mirror just aims down again. It does this all the time, not just at night. Any ideas on why this is happening?
Thanks! |

Hmm I know the passenger side tilts when you put it in reverse and the switch to move the mirrors is to the left.
Maybe your motor is shot? |

well its wierd, the motor works ok when you manually press the buttons .... the passenger mirror does work normally when you go in reverse so you can see the curb etc.... I almost think it might be a software issue, its like it overrides my changes shortly after I make them. Is there a reset or something for this?

Had a somewhat similar problem with the passenger mirror on my CPO '07 328i. The mirror would randomly move to a position focusing about 15 feet above the car, even though the seat memory and mirror adjusting control worked fine.
The mirror was finally replaced under warranty. Tom |

It's a known defect. The mirror shorts while checking to look to see if its in the right position and then randomly adjusts to another position. Have your dealer verify it and they'll replace the motor with an updated one. Just had this done last week. http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/b513608g.htm

I did some research and it appears the E92 as well as several other platforms have the same issue. A new mirror motor fixed the probably in all of the posts I read. Here is a good post for example:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230475 I also found the mirror motor on parts.com for $37, but it listed dealer retail at $49 so it might be easier to just go get it at the dealer. Hope this thread helps others |
