Quick Sale to Dealership: 2009 E90 328i Xdrive
I am looking to unload my friend's 2009 328i Xdrive with the following specs/options.
Monaco Blue Metallic Black Dakota X-drive I-drive Premium Sport Optional Style 285 wheels Cold Weather Heated Steering wheel Logic7 PDC Hill Descent Control Rear Sunshade Comfort Access The car has 20,5xx miles and I took it to the dealer for an appraisal as they can write my friend a quick check who is now out of the country. The car is in immaculate condition but has had an accident earlier this year. This involved a rear end damage which required a new rear bumper and trunk lid. The dealer offered a check of $20,000, which I believe is a tad low. Dealership mentioned that the car was involved in an accident which was reported to the CarFax, hence the lower value. What do you think of this price? The car is basically fully loaded and was $49,2xx (msrp) when my friend purchased it brand new from the dealer a year ago. It's a large depreciation hit from $49k to $20k in one year. What are your thoughts? I want a quick sale, but would it be tough to sell this car privately? The extent of the damage is not bad at all, but I can see how the CarFax report can discourage potential buyers. Thanks |

Sell it privately man, 20k is completely ridiculous for that car and those options. It'll be easy to sell yourself because you can explain how minimal the damage was to the potential buyer.

Have to agree -- $20K is way low. I am not in the market for a 328ix, but unless the damage was really serious, I would pay you more than that.
I've read that dealers cannot CPO a car with an accident history, which may affect how much they'll offer. But I am not sure if that is true. Does he have pictures/receipts from the accident repair? That may also help to sell the car to a private party who could see for themselves that the damage was not that serious. By the way, I don't think you can sell someone else's car unless the owner is available to complete the deal/sign paperwork, but I may be wrong. |
