Installed Kicker SSMB8's Today

First I want to thank Technic for suggesting these speakers and posting how to install them. I also want to thank JTSherri for the perfect spacers he made for my install. Used weather stripping to seal the spacers with the enclosures.

The spacers provided by JTSherri were 1/2" mdf and a 1/4 plastic spacer set for the speaker covers. The quality was outstanding and fit perfect.

The speakers sound great and compliment my Rainbow's in front and rear very well. The speakers are bandpassed between 50 -150 using Fmods and my amp's crossovers. I have a trunk sub for the lower freqeuncies. All drivers are powered by an Infinity Kappa 5 amp.

So far I am very happy with this upgrade. They look OEM as Technic has posted.

BTW I picked these speakers up off of ebay for less than $90.

Here are a few pictures.

They look good I am planning on getting a set of these soon. How many watts are they getting? So they dont hit the grills at all?

Can you describe your sytem?

List parts and amp and what you started with.
Did you have to run any new wire?

I have had the system cranked with no evidence of speakers hitting the grills. 1/4 inch spacer with the carpet seems to be enough. The amp driving these is 50W RMS per channel and they are plenty loud.

I started with the 10 speaker Hi-Fi system. System is as follows:

Amp: Infinity Kappa 5 channel. 50W RMS x 4 @ 4ohms + 300 RMS x1 @ 2ohms.
Front speakers: Rainbow 4" components. SLC2 10.25.NG
Rear speakers: Rainbow 4" coaxial. SL Installer 100
Underseats: Kicker SSMB8
Subwoofer: 10 inch dual voice coil Memphis Audio wired for 2 ohms.

Front and rear speakers are wired in parrallel and share channels on the amp. Other two channels are for the underseats and the amp has a dedicated sub channel.

I used all existing signal and speaker wire. Only new wire was to get to the amp and the RCA for signal. Wish I knew about Technic's harness before I cut into the wiring. Oh well...I own the car and plan on keeping it for a while.

Hope that helps.

Front and Rear Door Speaker in parallel

So each front and rear door speaker set is sharing a channel but since they are
in parallel the impedence is 2 ohm so you get a little more power out of the
amp and your fader is between the doors and floor . Thats kind of interesting
how does is work. ( a lot better than stock I assume)

You got it! Works great and sounds many times better than stock. Not as harsh with more volume and clalrity. I set the fader this way to try and accomodate the many different types of music I listen too to adjust the mid-bass volume in the cabin. I really do not use the fader.

Followed these instructions from another post. Here is a copy:

Kicker SSMB8* (Thanks Technic!)
- Top Mount Depth: 59 mm
- Product Link: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cMCNI6D...ker-SSMB8.html
- Installation Link: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...4&postcount=37
- Note: According to Technic, much better midbass driver than SWS-8, but not as good at sub-bass frequencies (30-40Hz), i.e. you will need an additional sub. Requires 1/2" spacer ring to fit enclosure and 1/4" shim underneath OEM grilles. Carpet needs to be cut away under seat rails to prevent surround hitting it but looks stock once seats installed.

Can I also order these spacers? OR At least where to get similar ones?

Also for those 1/4 plastic spacer set for the speaker covers.

How much for them? Delivered to CA, USA.

Thank you guys. Nice guide!

Fyi. For anyone with BASE audio (stereo) your spacer will need to be 3/4"

Thanks for the answer, I wrote him. I hope he'll reply to me.
Do you know if he works in a car audio shop with an internet site?
