Performance for a auto n54?
Just got a 2007 335i. Just wondering if it's even worth while getting a chip or a tune for the car?
I was looking at the Cobb AP since it's what I had on the STi. -Daniel |

Check out the Tune Comparison Chart.
Is definite necessary if you want more power.

Forget using the tuner you used on your STI. Each tuner is very specific to a car, there are no tuners that can tune every car perfectly and using one that doesn't know the car is one of the best ways to ruin your car or get a bad tune. I would recommend the JB4 or Vishnu Proceed, they're the biggest players.
It's silly to ask if the tune is worth it on these cars because this is probably the single most "worth it" car to tune in the world right now. It's one of the highest displacement turbo engines and is very conservativly tuned on a strong block. To make a long story short, you're looking at 50% more power with a tune and bolt ons. Most cars are very happy with 20%. In fact the car is so fast with a tune and bolt one that there are only 5 production cars in the world that will out accelerate it, the cheapest of which starts at $450,000. It will also hit 200 mph. So yes, worth it.

As a new owner as well, I can tell you that any "reputable" tune that has been on the market for awhile will be totoally worth it. Not only from a pure power standpoint as mentioned before, most tunes will also "clean up" the lower rpms in the powerband and make the car much smoother to drive. I've done some homework and my preference is the PnP JB4 from Burger since it integrates your boost gauge with the existing cluster. In other words, no "Look at me" gauges on your a pillar or in your vents. Also, the JB4 allows you to use your steering wheel controls to make changes on the fly.
Either way, this site has a wealth of information. My advice is to start reading and make your own decision about what tune will work for you. |

I'm not lazy... it's just an extra thread.
Thanks for the people that answered the questions. I just dont get people writing post replies that are just negative. By you typing 3-4 sentences on what I should do or I'm a noob, you could of answered the questions or save your time by not answering the questions. LOL. I was just trying to compare the cobb and how it responds to the n54 since it's still "fairly" new? I'll be looking in the the GIAC reflash and JB4 |
