Maintenance and servicing on high miles
Guys, just hit the 100,000 miles on my 330D. For the past year i have serviced the car myself and will continue to do so, but what needs to be considered now i have reached a big milestone?
I did 45k of those miles last year! does anything need replacing, checking or do i wait for a failure? glow plugs, valves, cam chain? does my engine even have these? anyway, apart from the standard stuff, i have not done anything.. what should i do?

Wow! that is some fuel bill for last year!
I am currently on 70K and driving much less than before, but would be good to also learn of what to you expect come the 100K mark. |

With my basic maths skills, i reckon with last years fuel approx £1.20ltr,
£5800 ish.. this year based on this mornings price near me of £1.32, £6400. so 12pence a litre costs me an extra £600 a year! Worry not though, good old mileage rate plus tax relief meant i got £12,000 in mileage! (based on fuel only)

The only preventative thing I can think of is you may want to consider using something that may prolong the life of your injectors (i.e. fuel additive, or using a premium fuel now and then).
No gtee they will prolong life, but I think worth trying for the minor cost involved. My last 330d needed its injectors refurbing at 120k miles - only 1 needed doing but I did all 6 for £800. 6 new ones would have been £2000+. As I'm on 75k I try to fill up with a premium fuel with cleaners in it every now and then for this reason. |

I'm about to hit 51k soon!... I would send it to a reputable dealership.....just for a check... but you've serviced it yourself and its still working! so, you know what you're doing by the sounds of it... :-) |

Have seen a few high revving Hondas bust chains with big mileage. But in a low stress, low rpm diseasal - I think you can forget about it. Just keep going to schedule. Things like Alternators and electric motors (wipers/heaters/starters etc) are most likely to become troublesome from experience.

Well,
It might be worth doing the chain just for peace of mind...especially if you're doing it yourself (only material cost to consider not labour). Once it's done you can forget about it for another 100,000 miles. Better that than it lunching itself and introducing a valve into one of your pistons no? |

The M47 engine has two timing chains. Wouldn't do any harm to replace but I've not heard of them going.
