Just had 4 Falken 452's put on yesterday replacing the Bridgestone 18".

What a difference it makes! The car used to give a really harsh ride but all that is gone, noticeable difference to the ride quality. I thought I was in the wrong car when driving back from the garage.

For anyone considering making the chance, I would fully recommend it.

I've just got to source a cheap compressor and tyre weld.

Good job steve!

Halfords do some great little compressors with auto stop pressure setting, useful and as accurate as my calibrated pressure gauge.

Tyreweld is only £5 or less from any garage / auto shop etc

Keep an eye out for the BMW Mobility kit on ebay, I picked one up for £40, just make sure the tyre snott is within it's use by date.

I currently have Falken 439 winter tyres on mine and totally agree with the above comments. Ride quality is much improved.

Can i ask what pressures you decided to run?

nice one!...i'm moving to non rft when my tyres will need changing...need to start looking at insurance implications and the tyre welds etc...

Is there anything else that needs to be done when you make the move from RFT to non RFT?

I thought the suspension is designed with RFT's in mind and you have some sensors that need changing/removing etc when you move to non RFT?....or am i talking bolluks? lol

Was running 40psi in the rft will experiment a little with the falkens.

I got a ring automotive compressor from amazon for £18 gets brilliant reviews, it's digital and very accurate the model number is RAC630 there is a cheaper version but reviews aren't as good, Asda also sell tyre weld for a couple of quid so got a couple of those in the boot just incase

I carry a can of Tyreweld that, according to the instructions, doesn't require a compressor. You just connect the can, let it empty into the tyre and drive off.
Never had to use it mind. Anyone used it? Is it any good?
What are the benefits of carrying a compressor around vs products where you don't need one?

Forget all the BMW BS - tyres are tyres; the only issue is the lack of a spare wheel - similar to half the cars on the UK roads. Either but a spare (or spacesaver) or do like many a "mobility kit," plus AA/RAC.

While its true you don't need a compressor for tyreweld, it does give piece of mind to have one on-board, and it makes checking/topping pressures easy.

I worry with tyre weld (which maybe unfounded, never ever used it) that if something goes "wrong" when using it you may find you have the gunk in the tyre, but aren't able to get it fully inflated - a compressor would help ensure it can be properly inflated.

I have the RAC600 which was about £15 on ebay - the RAC630 is probably better as mentioned above. Just like in Sainsburys petrol stations you can set the pressure and leave it pumping and it stops when the tyre is at reach the right bar/psi. So cheap you may as well have one - never used the footpump again thats for sure!

I installed the Michelin Pilot Sport PS3 and indeed the difference was great, much smoother especially with the M-Sport suspension

i use 1.8bar in the front and 1.9 bar in the rear in the summer

finally i use 2.0 bar on both front-back in the wet.

"Tyres are tyres", not exactly, all tyres have a spring rate (besides other factors) and that rate can vary across the brands by up to about 20%, for a given size. RFTs even more so, compared to the conventional tyre.

BMW have 'designed', or more accurately "compromised for RFTs" it appears. So there will be differences, in the suspension dynamics, which of course is what a lot of us want. How much? A lot depends on the model, exact suspension specification and the wheel size.
