If this is a dealer supplied option then don't.

It's approximately £6 of material at trade price, applied by unskilled labour for buttons, offers a 5 year guarantee which is both worthless and it doesn't last and gets in the way of proper polishing.

Apart from the extortionate price, the main problem is that dealers prepare their cars with polish that has filler in it so that all the dealer inspired swirls, holograms, and tiny scratches disappear like magic but re-appear when the filler wears off. But now, you have all these swirls, holograms and what have you, which are now protected by the paintshield and to remove the defects, you have to remove the paintshield.

Wax your car twice or three times with a decent wax (which means most of them) - Collinite 451 or 951 for example and it gives exactly the same protection for four to six months and saves you hundreds of pounds. Things like paint shield, paint guard, GAP insurance, etc. are nice little earners for the dealer. It's the ONLY reason they offer them.

What Im thinking of wont be done at dealers... wanted to protect from stone chip...

Which is another question...will I be more prone to stone chip if I do mostly motoway driving? is high speed that will be the main cause of it or closely following the car in front at high speed?

Had the whole front end of mine done by paintshield, couldn't recommended them highly enough, they did excellent work. My car is now just short of six months old and zero stone chips. The cost isn't cheap, but for me (I'm a little anal about stone chips), it was worth every penny.

So long as you have the whole front end done, including the full bonnet then you will be hard pushed to see it. They have guarantees against yellowing etc. and yes the cost was circa £1k.

Just a visit to their workshop would put your mind at rest, they have worked on all the exotica you could ever dream of. Aston's and Ferrari's were there when I had mine done and some people have had their whole car collection 'treated'.

Get it detailed first but let them know you are getting paintshield on it. IIRC, it effects the final finish done by the detailer.

Obviously, you can't remove existing marks after the paintshield is applied.

I got a quote for £2500+vat for full car protection from paintshield...

I cant quite make my mind up can anyone help with pointing out the advantage of having the full car covered?

I got my Alpina B3BT done by Paintshield I had done the whole bonnet, front wings, bumper, sills + mirrors, again would recommend them. Really committed people. This looks a huge sum of money for a 320d. If you look after the car you will get a good resale value anyway. IMO you just can't justify those sums of money.

I look after mine, but in the last year, I have been hit by 2-3 "golfball sized" stones on the motorway. You just can't avoid everything.
