Sirius activation from dealer or from Sirius?

I have a 2009 335i coupe that is pre-wired for satellite radio. I emailed Jason from Tischer asking him if I need to have the radio programmed at a dealer once I install it. He told me it does not need to be "programmed", just activated. And, I can do it myself by phoning Sirius. I've been reading many posts on this topic and everyone of them says the dealer has to "program" it. What's up?????????

You need to have the car coded so that it can see the sirius module, you then have to activate the sirius module to use the service.

I've read the post before. According to Jason though, all you have to do once the unit has been installed in the vehicle is phone Sirius to activiate.

FWIW, I got my car used with Sirius. I called Sirius and asked for a trial. I got a 12 month all-channels trial. Not sure why, or if the tech screwed up, but they never took my CC, and I have all the channels and when I login on Sirius' website it shows my account good for a year. Worth a shot.

Same story here, when the trial is about up, you'll start getting notices from Sirius that it's time to renew your subscription. They don't need a CC for the trial itself, it'll just stop working at the end of the 12months if you don't pay.
