About to close a deal on a 08 e92 manual and have a few questions

the car im buying has 50k miles.. i was wondering as far as reliability.. how much can the motor take?(looking to make 350-400whp) should i feel safe modding the car? how well does the tranny hold up? I know these are all "search able" answers but im due to pick up the car at the dealership tomorrow... also how strict is bmw on mods? my car is coming with cpo+maintenance.. anyway thanks ahead for anyone who responds just so no one else does it.. yes i know i didn't

sorry could not resist.

The car is reliable besides high pressure fuel pump and wastegates . Check if the car has the latest software and fuel pump and if the turbos were replaced. Test the car and look for any rattling that could be due to the wastegates.
You can run a tune and remove prior maintence work.
Best out is the Procede (piggyback) and flash you have GIAC and COBB.

there are many threads out on everything i mentioned above so just search to go deeper into this

As enrita said wastegate and hpfp are the main problems. Get a chip and a couple extra mods and you will be easily at 350whp. I am at around 400whp with Stage 2 GIAC and all bolt ons.

when i was test driving as many e90/92's as i could when i was looking i could feel a strong difference between the updated software cars and non updated (being that newer software introduced lag) after purchasing my 07 cpo'ed i brought it to my home dealer and they put new software on due to rattling wastegates (around idle), i complained about turbo lag and ended up getting software reverted ("revert wastegate" option) and getting new wastegates and turbos. IF its the new software ask them to revert the waste gate operation you will not be disappointed
