European Delivery, and then to Austria
We are picking up our 328i Coupe (Barbera Red), and then plan to head to Salzburg and Vienna. Any advice as to hotels, sites etc. would be appreciated. We will be returning the car to Harms in Munich. Has anyone driven the route from Vienna to Munich, and give us some idea of the time that it will take. Thanks

Vienna > Munich should take you something between 4h - 6h, depends on the time of day you're driving, traffic jams could be a bitch on that highway (lots of work on the road in process). I suggest you leave Vienna after 9h am

http://www.austria.info/xxl/_site/us/ When you drive from Vienna to Munich don´t go over the Autobahn. It is boring. Go along the river Donau over normal roads on the right hand side, through the Wachau (it is a part along the Donau where is wine, beautyful villages and very, very nice surroundings) untill Linz. This is the capital from Upper Austria. Then you go to Salzburg over the Salzkammergut. There are some lakes called Traunsee, Attersee, Mondsee, Wolfgangsee, Fuschlsee (there ist the world headquarter of RedBull ). That would be a very nice tour, but it lasts longer than a few hours ... By the way. About 60 km in the South of Linz there is Steyr. In Steyr is the biggest engine factory of BMW. There are built about 70 % of all BMW engines. There is also a guided plant tour. Have a nice time ...

Don't forget an International Driver's License. You can get one at AAA. I found Costco to be cheap and easy to get my passport photo ($5). You'll need the photo for the DL's. When are you going? I'll be passing thru Austria in May.

Will be picking up the Barbera Red E-92 on July 9th, and heading straight to Salzburg and Vienna. Let me know all the highlights in Austria. We are staying at Bed and Breakfasts, should be a blast.

If you drive on the motorway or "A" roads in Austria, you must buy a Vignette which you affix to your windshield. If you stay on smaller roads it will be no problem.
Have a great trip!! |
