Buying my first BMW - Looking for suggestions
Hi,
I am RJ and I am new to this forum. I have yet to buy a BMW but I plan to purchase 2007 or 2008 convertible by end of this month. There are two things I am confused about: 1. Whether to buy 328i or 335i. From my Internet search, I have found that there are lot of 2008 335is which had HPFP issues. All the buybacks you see on the dealer lot are due to HPFP. I haven't really found any such issues with 328i. On one hand, I want to get the ride that 335i has, on the other hand I don't want to get stuck with HPFP issues. What's the word from other owners? 2. Which color to get? My first choice is to get Black / Coral Red but I am not having much luck in finding a car in that color combo. What do you guys think about Crimson Red/Black? Any other color suggestions? Thank you for reading! RJ |

Well, I do care for power but I do not want a car which will be visiting workshop frequently. So I wanted to hear from other 335i owners about their experience with HPFP.

It's one or the other. If you want reliability as a daily driver get the 328i. If you want performance get the 335i. The HPFP is a hit or miss. You gotta gamble. Some people will get it. Some people won't.

OP...as a owner both an e92 335i now and an e90 328i.....fuck both of these cars and get an e92 or e90 M3 if your going with a BMW for sport and speed. Vert looks great down, shitty up. If your going to buy and dont care about going fast 328 vert may be good. I like the 335i, but its almost like a Diet M3....lol doesnt really hit the spot, and its not a "tuners" car contrary to what they say on here. If I could do it again I would not have gotten my 335i, I would have saved a little longer and grabbed an M with just the simple mods.

Thanks for the replies guys.
yakev724, why not crimson red? Does it not look good? And e92stance, I wish I could get an M3 but right now my budget won't allow it. May be in few years when I save up more. |

335i may also begin to depreciate a bit quicker due to the hype of this whole HPFP deal. IMO your best option is to just find the better deal and take it. you can't go wrong with either car. Verts are expensive, as stated above, you could likely get an M3 for something similar to your budget (a nearly base coupe was FS 38.5k on here a few weeks ago, E90s can be hand pretty regularly under 40k), though insurance/maint. puts it in a whole different running cost category (but sill worth it, of course |

The hpfp problem isn't as bad as this forum makes it out to be imo. I've had one failure in 50k miles in my 2007 335.
There are tons of 335's out there, 135, x5's, 535's and not all of them have hpfp issues. Ask bmw for the service records of whatever car you buy and don't buy one that has had multiple hpfp replacements.

Go 335 and make sure it has the sports package and xenons or you aren't getting the full BMW experience. The seats alone is probably the most important option to have.
There is already a new design hpfp and the amount of people posting about failing hpfp has def. gone down. As with Any German car you have to have oem or aftermarket warranty if you want to keep it for 5+ years. A 335 might cost more to maintain but the reward you get from it's engine out weighs anything. Thanks guys. I am now feeling much more confident in buying a 335i.
Now the only remaining question is whether to get Black / Coral Red or Crimson Red / Black. |

I have added the poll for 3 color combos I am considering.
If I get Crimson Red, I would install Black lines and Black grill and get M3 style rims. I think that would look sexy. What say? |

Yakev724, that sucks. I thought I would be able to get black lines mod. BTW, I am getting vert, not a coupe.
