2007 e90 335i wheel spec range, expertise needed
I've been focusing way too much on my engine and completely neglecting the wheels. as a result, i'm worse than a n00b when it comes to wheel, but i'm trying to learn.
i currently have OEM Type 159 (17x8 ET34 225/45 R17) i need to get a new set of wheel and tires for summer auto-x ing. i'd like to get a staggered setup eventho my e90 is a non sport (so it has square setup) i'm looking for decent quality and affordable wheel, performance before look. my question is, what kind of offset and backspacing can i fit into my e90? i went to tirerack and got overwhelmed by the term offset and backspacing. i do know my bolt pattern is 5-120 , and i think i'm going for modest 17" or 18" wheels. so: 1. what range of offset is fine for e90 335i ? 2. and what range of backspacing ? 3. what is exactly "ET" that i see on this forum? is just just offset? 4. where can i find some reviews about the wheels? i've been warned that some wheels are poorly made that it's impossible to balanced / keep balanced. any help/hints/advice/2cents are appreciated! |

Offset are the same as ET.
In general offset in the 30s are fine.

2) 8.5 +35-40 fronts and 9.5 +30-35 rears or 10 +38. 3) ET is the German term for Einpresstiefe, which stands for Offset. 4) This amazing E90Post community is a great place to start! Doing searches and reading customer reviews would be the best resource. Quality and customer service pre/post purchase would be a good thing to keep in mind. If you have any further questions, feel free to let me know. -Charles@VMRWheels

does the backspacing not matter then? i think everyone seem to only care about offset. also, were you strictly talking about 18" or do those numbers also apply to 17" wheels? thanks again! |

Backspacing is very similar to offset. Its the distance from the mounting surface to the inside lip of the wheel. While offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the face of the mounting surface of the wheel that contacts the hub. When talking about most aftermarket wheels in the import car community, many will bring up offset rather then backspacing. These numbers can apply to any size wheel. -Charles@VMRWheels
