Check out this "detailer"

So I saw an ad for $250 for exterior detail on kijiji and I decided to give them a quick email asking them what the detail consists of.

and the response I got is this:

"A quick wash and dry, and clean all the windows and mirrors"

So I emailed back asking "WHat about the detailing"

And his response:

"No, who's going to give you a detail inside and polish or wax outside for $250? Detail doesn't mean polish or wax it means clean and I never said wax or polish in my ad. If you don't like what I offer your not interested in cleaning your car . Don't reply if you don't want to make an appointment, if you never seen my work you shouldn't respond like that. I have customers who bring me high end cars, and no problems."

WHy are these so many people washing cars and claiming to provide "detailing" services and ripping people off... am I missing something?

Every corner I turn there people selling "details" for ridiculous amounts of money and they are just simple one bucket washes with a microfiber towel.

It's sickening.

He's talking out of his ass. Just move on. Stop looking on that website for detailers and start looking here or autopia.org.

Haha, I wasn't really looking for a detailer.

I just had a couple friends spend $100 plus for a detail, which didn't even include a friggen quick detailer at the end of the wash.

I'm just msg'ing all these people selling "details" and seeing if even ONE of them actually details your car. So far every single one is just an expensive car wash.

And what sucks is these places are actually usually pretty busy when the weather gets nicer out.

It's crazy how badly they are ripping off unsuspecting customers.... I wouldn't mind using one bucket of ONR with a cheap $1microfiber and washing someones car in 10 minutes for $60-100... not a bad deal at all haha.... its ridiculous... lucky this site had a good detailing section or I may have fallen victim one day too.

$250 for a car wash? wow.

I have noticed people labeling car washing as detailing. Usually if someone offers paint correction/protection, they will specifically use those terms.

In an industry that doesn't seem to have a consensus of what constitutes “detailing” it’s little wonder Joe Public is confused (and conned into paying for a ‘detail’ that consists of a wash ‘n’ wax)

terms like: detail , wax, polish , clay , it will always have different meaning for people , the more you are involved into detailing the more knowledge you have.
once you know the steps and the products the "map" is easy to read.

Kind of like the $65 details you see at line car washes, Basically a wash and dry with crappy materials and dirty rags and a spray wax for $65. See them all the time and just shake my head.
