Yellow half engine light came on tonight...new jb4 user
On the way home did a quick little run to 120...afterwards the yellow half engine light came on...did 2-6 to remove them...engine light is gone...are the codes still there? Nothing strange seemed to happen though during the pull..suggestions?

Forgot to mention, the car was only 22 miles to empty..dont know of that has anything to do with it....???
Anyways as far as codes go..when I did mode 1-1 it blinks twice, then blinks twice again, then goes to 30 and then 10 on the speedo, then to zero.. Last edited by 335why; 03-29-2011 at 07:48 AM.. |

you should actually read them out before removing them otherwise its impossible to diagnose why you went into limp mode.

Plus, "tuner" codes dont necessarily show as "check engine" lights. They typically remain hidden... Hence their purpose. So ya, important to know what went wrong to diagnose properly.

That sounds like a symptom of the HPFP failing if my memory serves me correctly. You may want to see if your car has a recall on your HPFP as just about all of the N54s do.

code 3100 normally goes hand and hand with 2a87. If that is the case then you need to replace your Vanos. Very easy DIY and not that expensive. I had that for awhile and the car felt sluggish.
You Vanos may be getting jammed.

Hmm, ok. How much is "not very expensive" I just did a quick read about the vanos and heard that a lot of the time it's down low torque that's affected and the car feels "jerky" .. Actually felt that a bit earlier... Vanos can only be purchased thru BMW?

You might be interested in this DIY if in fact it is a Vanos issue....http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486201

I put the car back to stock and ONLY on the default mode it surges when I get on it...like it's cutting in and out of power.. Not a hugeeee difference maybe looes like 15 HP for a split second then gains power back..like I said it ONLY does this on stock map 0....the car doesnt seem to have as much power on map 5 though...it WOULD spin 2nd at like 35-40mph flooring it 2nd...now it just takes off..still pulls but not like before...

I have had similar problems in WOT and the car just goes into half engine mode, I have had the fuel pump changed during recall and the ecu reprogramed also to recall and I can still trigger the half engine. Think this could be a Vanos Solenoid issue, any suggestions?

Read codes....only way to tell. When my HPFP went on my 07 I had no CELs prior to it going. I was just driving and boom, no power lol.
