someone should do something about his mother as well....talk about bad parenting and having the nerve to condemn the police.

"On Wednesday, Mandy Elliott said she wished authorities had chosen to talk him down. She also wanted police to get special training in dealing with children. Aidan has since transferred to another school."

Perhaps she should have parenting training.

what gets me is that the police have visited this child before in one of his outbursts and previously "talked him down"

this time i guess he got to violent and even taunted the police w/ a makeshift weapon.

Good Morning America should be ashamed of itself for airing this mother and her child. If anything, they should show it as a example of bad parenting.

NO 8 year old deserves to be pepper sprayed. There are other ways to deal with little shits, but its definitely NOT pepper spray

^ so threatening to kill others and breaking down doors to get to them doesn't require a little pepper spray? 8 years old or not...
What should they have done? Tackled him and probably break his arm or other injury?

This was the best way to calm the situation down without any force or injury....pepper spray isn't that bad...

I'm sure they did try talking him down, but there's no way an 8 year old is going to listen to reason in a situation like that. The boy was not injured in any way from the pepper spray, so whats the harm? There were probably many other options the police had that would have resulted in injuries like a broken arm from being tackled.

IMO, the police handled it perfectly. When there's a person (no matter what age) threatening people with a sharp object and looking like they are ready to use it, i would consider it a success if the situation is contained with no one getting seriously hurt.

He had some sort of sharp stick or something. Don't blame officer much. It does sound a little extreme because the kid was 8 years old, but that was probably one of the best course of actions the officer could have taken at the time. I'm sure officer tried to reason with the kid first. You read what the kid said in response:

“Come get me, f-----,”

End of the day kid has irritated eyes and no one was hurt (non psychological damage). I think the kid scared the other kids more than he himself was hurt/scared. He held 7-8 kids + teachers hostage with his hostility. Personally can't think of many options where I can ensure less collateral damage than this scenario.

I was just going to add this exact thought, I would rather be pepper sprayed then tackled, I would rather have my wife of kid pepper sprayed then tackled. Plus it is safer for the officer, both physically and politically. This way nobody can say that the cop was unnecessarily rough, he used a tool that was made for this type of situation.

yes, i read the article and watched the video. it does not matter what he said or did, pepper spray is NOT a way to deal with the situation like that. by your logic, it would also be OK to use a taser, if he said that he deserved it?

my god, a kid with a stick!!! how fucking dangerous!!! HE WILL KILL ALL OF US!!!
are you serious? he is 8. 1 adult can subdue him. no need for pepper spray.

you can always handcuff a little fucker like that to a light pole for everyone to see.

How many of you have ever been pepper sprayed by cops (not some over the counter pepper spray)? Do you KNOW what it feels like?

Also most of you here are talking out our your ass. Until you get your own kid and know anything about raising them, STFU.

Please, I am sure you would be that same person that said the cop shouldn’t have attacked the poor child. The mother would have said that nobody should have laid a hand on my child, and there would have been a lawsuit. Jesus Christ the country is getting raped but p*ssies and attorneys.

You're are trip bro. No one ever said a taser would be ok. I heard 1 out of 3 people need to go get checked out for problems arising from getting tasered....of course that is not a smart option. Subdue him? You mean tackle his ass....and you don't think he would get injured from that alone??? Your talking out of your ass...This was a great solution. Period.
