Blow off valves

I have a 08 335xi automatic and looking to get a blow off valve, everythings are stock. do you guys out there have any suggestion where to get and which one to get? Everythings else are stock, just thought it would get it a cool sound to it. Is this a bad idea? would this effect anything to the engine? please help......

You have an auto, the bov goes off when you let off to shift on a MT. So you'll need to really rev it up to hear the bov go off. Not worth it.

Why?

If you just want to spend money then I'd suggest that you buy a Civic.

"This Stage 2 Cold Air Intakeproduces 27 max horsepower, 34lbs. x ft. torque and out-flowed the factory intake by 98%. Includes a durable 16 gauge, powder-coated heat shield; this air intake system features a washable/reusable conical air filter.........."

27 max???? seriously? that and a couple stickers and you got over 50 hp for less than 510.00.

anyone using this or any CAI, is there such a dramatic change. I don’t even have my 335d yet and no xp modding a BMW but this seems farfetched.

OP if you do this might be smart to opt for the DRY filters as the oil that you use after washing the filter might be bad for sensors.

I don’t have any xp with these mods on a BMW but seems to me the stuff we used to do squeeze performance out of our Hondas and SpecV's don’t apply. These BMW's are pretty much optimized, start thinkin ECU, performance exhaust, or something that will make a diff.

good luck

I have this same AFE intake. I did notice the car was peppier and when I took it for a ride after installing I did seem to be losing traction more often but I could have been imagining it. I may be dynoing the car this summer so I can see what numbers I put down with the intake and a tune.

I think Christopher just posted the highest price for the intake he could find cause I got this for almost little over 300.

do you have a baseline before mods? that would help but any info you provide would be awesome.

I remember that feeling of "is is faster or am I imagining it" when i would mod my cars or trucks, wish I would have popped for dyno. Will do if mod my 335d, but that will be well down the road.

look forward to seiing your dyno info.

Didn't do a baseline beforehand just assumed it would be 265-275hp 275-285trq so whatever I dynoed would be about +/-10

Don't be, just try to do a search before hand. Basically, a BOV will be useless to you and you shouldnt get it just for the sound. It should be used to hold a higher level of boost better and the sound is an add-on positive to those who like it.

technically, BOV (blow off valve) is VTA (vent to atomsphere), hence you hear a nice swoosh noise, BPV (by pass valve) is a closed system, it vent excess air/pressure back into the intake and keep the turbo spinning to prevent lag, it usually make less noise, but some do have a funny "ping" noise, BOV will almost guarantee you a CEL and may even stall your engine, if you are going to get one, make sure it is a recirculated one.

That would be true IF the car was MAF based...N54 is TMAP based

Wow do some research before posting wrong information. Our cars are not MAF!

OP, if you really want a BOV for just the sound (to each their own), you will also need to buy an aftermarket chargepipe with a BOV flange. However, I did see someone do a custom DV to BOV mod using the stock pipe.
