New iDrive programmable buttons - Photos

Programming the new buttons for the March '07 iDrive system is as easy as 1-2-3. Forgive the very blurry photo... trying to shoot in low light while pressing buttons after too much coffee...

Also, here is a REALLY cool feature of the buttons:

If you touch one of the buttons with your finger (not press, just touch mind you), it displays the setting for that button in the large window and shows the tabs for each of the buttons beneath that. So you can see what your settings are at any time... you don't have to "try" buttons to remember where you set something!

Thanks. That first one looks like I took it while falling down a flight of stairs.. I'm disappointed with it, but it works okay.

No, an April Fool's joke would be saying if you ordered 6FL that BMW would provide you with the crucial cable you need to acutally use it. That would be a cruel joke.

So they actually changed the console and added these new buttons for the new nav system? That's cool! I thought it was a software upgrade only and that I could get it for my car (Jan 07 production). Does anyone know if they are doing retro-fitting?
Also, is the 6FL available for pre-Mar 07 cars? I would really like one of those! I searched through some threads but did not see anything specific on whether pre-Mar 07 cars can have it installed. Thanks!

BTW-
You can assign these to more than just radio presets, you can save:
1. Nav location
2. a phone number (dials preset number)
3. any audio source (i.e CD3, SAT station, AUX, Ipod)

Sorry. But BMW did promise me a commission on any sales resulting from me bragging about the new features.

They are! They are well integrated into the control panel as if they were always meant to be there. They are subtle and don't "stand out" at all. The functionality is very well designed - especially the "touch to remember" feature.

As someone who is often critical (pronounced "rants and bitches"), I have to say that BMW got this one right!
