Insurance coverage while tracking car?
My insurance policy has a specific exclusion in it against damage while being driven on a racetrack.
What do all of you that track your car have for coverage in case you crash? Are there companies that will actually allow this or are you just SOL? |

I use these guys. Never had to use the policy, so I can't speak to their policy service.

I am not personally aware of any regular car insurance which would cover you outside of normal daily driving activities. If I remember correctly my current insurance is null and void in event of a nuclear attack so they definitely will not cover for racing
However, I have an antique truck and when I use to drive it and had insurance on it, I had special classic/antique car insurance and it pretty much covered me for anything and everything. I even pity the poor person who would ever hit me since my insurance allowed me to return the truck to the condition prior to the accident pretty much no matter the costs were and it was at my discretion. Anyway, I do not race, but I would imagine there is racer's insurance, it is probably pretty expensive but if you are willing to pay you can get coverage. |

I found it to be reasonably priced. You can state the value you want insured. I insured my car for $30,000 for a 2 day event for $200 in the past. Seemed fair. Get a copy of your full auto policy. I read mine cover to cover, it made no mention of exclusions for tracking, racing surface etc. Now if I did file a claim, I would guess they would drop me after paying it.

May I ask who your insurer is?

Most generic insurance policies exclude race track driving. You could opt for specialized full auto insurance coverage that covers racing. Race car insurance, however, is pretty steep and generally does not cover auto and medical accidents that occur outside the race track.

Lockton now offers packages for 6-12 events a year, with each even raning from 1-3 days.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

It completely depends on your state law and insurance carrier. I live in CT and my automobile insurance policy covers instructional events (club-sponsored HPDEs) but it doesn't cover timed or competitive events (autocross, or any type of racing). Check the wording of your policy carefully.

no personal auto policy sold in the US includes track coverage.
if you are illegally racing on the street and total your car, you are COVERED. if you are racing legally on the track, you are not covered. if your 9 year old brother or sister is driving because you are too drunk, covered. weird huh? |
