OEM Amp question

So apparently my OEM amp is not receiving inputs for programming. Dealership has suggested replacement of the amp, which costs 1.2k from the dealership and 1k from tischer.

Some car facts: Sept/05 build; Feb/06 delivery; out of warranty; approx 55k miles; CCC replaced during this stealership visit, which is why i do not want to blow more money on this.

I first told them to recheck connections, and they said connections are fine. Then, I told them to check the fuse of the amp, and apparently that is okay. If a chip inside the amp is dead, then that could be a reason why the amp is dead, but can anyone suggest any other issues as to why the amp is not responding?

I've looked on ebay for the amp, and have found a couple for significantly less (yet they are used, and who knows if they are still functional). What I want to know is (1) is it easy to install the new amp/is it a simple swap? (2) is there any way I can test that the new but used amp works before going in for reprogramming?--my biggest fear would be blowing some money on a used amp and then finding out that its not receiving inputs. I would go ape shit if that happened. (3) DOES IT NEED REPROGRAMMING? I was getting confused when my SA was mentioning programming and inputs, cause I figured the amp didn't take program udpates, but I don't know.

thanks in advance

It probably is Logic7....

OP, you can either put in another L7 amp or you can bypass the digital MOST connection loop by recoding your head unit for HiFi outputs and running wiring to the trunk where you would install an aftermarket amp. The latter would probably be less expensive. You can probably do it for less than $300. Run the numbers both ways and see what makes most sense to you.

if i were to get an aftermarket amp, there would be a need for coding for the CCC? could this coding come from the dealership (or would they not have this)? if I were just to buy a L7 amp would i need to go back for additional coding? sorry again..new to audio electronics

Coding of the head unit for balanced HiFi outputs can be done by an Autologic shop in your area. I think it costs about $100 from what I have heard.

Regarding dealer coding after installing a replacement OEM amp...I have read conflicting info so I don't know.
