Do you have to be a NASA member to join. And how tough is tech inspection? I have a cracked windscreen which I have tracked with many times and it has not gotten worse.

Yes. I believe its $40 a year IIRC.

I never tech at the track. You can and it'll cost you $40. My understanding is it can be done for free beforehand at a participating center but I've never tried that myself. Unsure how strict they are.

Sounds fun, decent price. Do you know how long each session is? Also, any idea how flexible they are with group placement? I don't really want to get stuck in the newb group

20 min sessions. Flexible. Can get group 2 without proof of experience. If they believe you should step down based on your performance, they will bump you. If 3 or 4 is desired, they must sign off. I'm signed off for 3 but never plan on 4.

Thanks for the info! Never ran HPDEs with them, so I didn't really have an idea how they were set up

Well, I'm officially in now. Thought I was before but I must have not clicked through everything. Just did it again this morning.

For those that haven't tracked before, Thunderhill is a very forgiving road course. Meaning, there is only one wall and it's on the straight. Every corner has ample run off.

But, that wall EATS cars. If you come in too hot, just go off the track...don't try to save it!

Although I'm sure it happens, I haven't seen it yet. *fingers crossed*
Now compare that to Infineon, I think Thunderhill is a much safer course to learn.

Most off course Thunderhill incidents I've seen are at turns 2, 5a, and 9. Luckily, that usually results in just a very dirty interior.

Jerry sent out emails last night, I think the sign-ups might be closed.

ngng - Is your signature photo from Laguna turn 8? That's pretty badass.

Is anyone going to THill camping or getting a hotel Friday-Sat? I plan on camping and doing some grillin' on Friday night. I havn't been there yet, I'm assuming they sell 100 oct at the track?

I think 100 octane is $6.00/gal there and 91 is $5.00/gal. And ngng's pic looks like the bypass at Thunderhill. Really easy to catch air there.

Wasn't planning on camping but it's really not a bad idea. Would/could you set up a tent?

Hopefully the weater isn't too hot for you guys that weekend. I went a couple weekends to go to Thill and it was pretty damn hot that day. First and last time I plan on tracking in the summer. And speaking of run offs, For some reason near the end of the day I tend to mess up on turn 14. I take it too hot and brake too late especially when there's no cars in front of you on that stretch.

People get greedy at the end of the day

Where is your brake and turn in point for 14? Are you single, or double apexing the corner?

I have all the camping supplies we need, including a pop-up canopy for the parking area. I was told by Jerry, when we were at Infineon, lot's of people are planning on camping/grilling.
