A good qestion really as its a very important thing to get right if your having your car tuned up?!

last thing you want is a holed piston due to detonation due to improper mapping

so who have people used and with what success??

for me it will have to be a diesel tuner, a reputable one preferably!

i have heard of companies like 'birds' and 'DMS' and have been led to believe they are 'bmw' tuners is this correct?

where are they and do they do the diesel?

DMS have not yet cracked the mapping code to the turbo for the 335i, but says its a matter of time (they quoted 6weeks-6 months! - so i guess they are not even close)
I am not sure about the diesel - you will have to ask them but DMS are one of the best and do a lot of Bmw's

I am getting my 335D remapped by www.ca-automotive.co.uk . They have mappers who have successfully cracked the encryption in the Infinian processor. However, the ECU has to be taken out of the car and put in a freezer to cool down before work can be done to it.

My car has done 2000 miles from new, and I trust Roy of CA Automotive 100%

I will be posting up dyno readings pre and post re-map, also to simulate real world driving, I'll be hitting Santa Pod again to compare difference in 1/4 mile run times.

it would be void, but its supposedly undetectable... its a gamble, but its one i'm willing to take

Definitely

Warranty? You don't tune cars and worry about warranty ..... lol

Actually, I trust CA Automotive more than anyone else in the tuning business. They have supercharged plenty of E46 M3s and none has gone wrong. I see more box stock cars having more faults and problems because the owners have little insight into mantaining a car.

They can't do that. They may refuse repair/replacement of any damaged components in which the failure is directly link to a modification, but not otherwise. I've been through this several times with my previous supercharged and tuned e46s and argued convincingly in support of my claim every time.

Furthermore, if your car is brand new, the car is warrantied by BMW GB. The dealer carries out the works and bill BMW in Bracknell for both parts and labour. In your dealer's eyes, it's a win-win situation for them, keep the customer happy, get paid for labour. It is very unlikely they will refuse warranty work, in fact they are stupid to do so. It's only after the 3 year factory warranty is up, the BMW AUC warranty is supplied and honoured by the dealer you renew the warranty with. That's when things can get sticky as it involves your dealer coughing up money for the parts and time for labour.

If you know the system, and establish good relationship with your local dealer, anything and everything is negotiable. Just have to work your way round it

Thanks Nick, i have been wondering re mods and warranty work and from what i had heard i was reluctant to go ahead, but now i cant wait.........if only DMS could sort out de-coding the 335i!
Or Do you know of other tuning houses who have?

If you look at the DMS quoted figures for a 535d remap (which uses an older 3.0i engine) and assume the same gains for 335d (which has already got a more powerful newer engine), then torque of 700nm looks VERY feasible.

You are going to have all sorts of fun trying to connect that to the road

Just make sure you have plenty of spare tyres.

The E92 chassis generates so much mechanical grip anyway. Plus the added torque is more useful when the car is already on the roll. Traction shouldn't be a problem.

Regading tyres, my father owns an industrial tyre and wheels business and due to that i get road car tyres dirt cheap

for 335i or 335d????
