328i supercharger?
Anybody heard any news or rumors on any major engine upgrades for the 328 from active autowerke, ESS, Technik, or from anybody else for that matter? I'm hoping at least one of them will come out with a supercharging system for the 328 within the next few years. I asked this same question on the forced induction forum and they told me to come here...

wait a couple years, the E92 and even E90 is still very new and tuners need time to do their R&D on things like superchargers...but i am sure there will be a big demand for it

Same here, had I taken the risk I can easily pay an extra 150 a month to get me some twin turbos on my e92. Oh well when I am done with this 328i, I will hope the 2011 "340i" comes, I will seize the opportunity. Probably it will be the e46M3 engine with twin turbo a whopping 380hp. Oh only one can fantasize...

Meh...there will always be something bigger and better around the corner. Just enjoy what you drive now...keeping in mind that most of the population will never get a chance in their lives to drive a new BMW.
In the meantime...start saving up some money . Because when that supercharger kit comes out...it definately will not be cheap (+ labour/install). |

Instead of blowing money on a aftermarket supercharger (that may or may not be reliable) why not spend a little more and get the 335 that comes with two turbos and WARRANTY.

Well, you would probably save money in the long run by just selling a 328 and buying a 335. Plus he would have a factory warranty to go with it.
Supercharged 328 sounds stupid to me. No company is going to produce one when there isnt going to be much of a market for it. Why would people buy that when there is the 335 with procede out now that produces about what the FI 328 would??? |

Thats why after financing my 328i is over, I am goin in to get the next 3 series coupe. I would feel funny to just refinance and get a 335i. It looks just the same in and out. Only difference is the twin exhuast and need to speed more oftenly. If I have the chance the M3 is slightly differernt with its cool body kit and awsome carbon fiber roof plus the greater need to smoke other v8s out there. In Russia, the car drives you.

+1 It'll cost more to do that than if you had just gotten a 335.

Turbo tends to wear out the engine much faster within the five years of owning one. It would cost more to bring back the performance by replacing the turbo system versus the all aspired I6. My 2cents.

guys i know it makes more sense and is a lot easier to say "get a 335i" but i dont think thats what the poster was looking for and that really isnt helping him. anyways, by looking at how long it took for the e36 and e46, turbos and superchargers to come out it seems like its a little farther down the road. the way i look at it is they usually come out right around the time of when your warranty is going to expire if you bought early, so while i really really want a blown bimmer its smarter to wait till the warranties up anyways. (or at least thats what i tell myself to make the wait easier)

I am talking about the long run of owning withing 5 year range. What is a 335i if the turbos are out? A 325i? The standard warranty covers 3 years or 50k miles which ever comes first.

It would be FAR cheaper to just get a 335i then to buy a 328i and then supercharge it just to get the same performance the stock 335i already gives you! These companies will spend their $$$ developing the 335i and upcoming M3 further. Edit: Guess I should of just read the other responses first, as others pretty much said what I did above. Oops |

For some of you newer members here, the 328i is basically the same N52 engine in the outgoing 325i/330i with a few intake differences and DME VANOS control. Talk about wanting aftermarket forced induction for that motor has been brought up numerous times in several threads.
After speaking with a BMW tuner, VANOS and its engine management present special challenges to overcome. It is difficult to force induce an air/fuel mixture without causing the engine to enter limp mode. Horsepowerfreaks unsuccessfully attempted to develop a turbocharger system for the E90. VF Engineering just came out with their E46 M3 SC kit. Hasn't that car been around since 1999? |
