How many of you own a tablet?
Just wondering how many people have bought or use a tablet. (tablet PC, ipad, android tablet, etc.). I just bought one (Asus ep121) and finding it much better than using my laptop. I like how i can cradle it on my forearm or on my lap without constantly screwing with the angle of the screen. I always take it to work, and just throw it on the passenger seat of the car like a book. I need to get a good case for it, but they're hard to find. I did find a combo stand/cover that looks pretty unique:

I have the original iPad, 16GB version. I love it. I use it all the time, even when my laptop is right in front of me. I never travel with my laptop anymore (unless I need it for photo editing), I always bring my iPad. It is a great addition to my Apple TV.
I didnt feel that the iPad 2 was necessary. Its additions are neat and all, but I wasnt going to spend that fortune on another tablet again. I'll wait for the iPad 3 to come out and I'll get that. |

Ipad2 here. Love it, it's light weight, the screen is amazing and it's easy to travel with. My laptop now stays at home most of the time.

Well the first thing I thikn a lot of people overlook is if the 7" or 10" form factor is right for them. I think that's the first thing that has to be evaluated. Some people jump straight to the iPad and don't use it because it doesn't fit their size needs. There are so many good options out there right now. I personally can't stand tablets but it's an interesting market to watch, and I'm curious as to what effect it could have on the cell phone market if it lessens the emphasis on fanciness on cell phone tech. I would like more options that actually:
a) find a signal b) hold a signal c) make calls in a pinch d) hold calls in a pinch e) don't constantly lose sync with work emails (INCREDIBLY important). f) don't require a second battery or constant on-the-go charging. Maybe if tablets can take over the MM demands of a traveler, cell phones can go back to concentrating on being mobile communication platforms. |

nope
If I do ever get one, you can bet your ass it'll at least have a usb plug on it so I can hook up a thumb drive to it. For an item that is all about convenience, it sure is missing alot of it.

yup, put my textbooks on it in PDF. Makes it a lot easier carrying a tablet with 5 textbooks then carrying 5 big ass textbooks.

iPad has nearly replaced my laptop. I use the desktop for heavy computing, and the iPad for nearly everything else.

Tablets are great. Bought the original Ipad for parents and was addicting when i was setting it up. I don't have one myself yet, still using my laptop but I'm waiting for the Ipad 3.
One thing i hated when traveling with laptops is the battery dies like in less than two hours on a flights, can't even watch an entire movie. |

Every single person that i know who owns an iPad, can't get enough of it. I am yet to see a single person who owns one and does not use it. Quote:
Second battery? Pfft. My iPhone4 holds charge all day just fine with BT, WiFi and Push notifications turned on. Yes, its at about 20% charge around 6-7pm, but by that time i am either home, or in the car, where i can charge it for 15 minutes to last me till the end of the day. Yes, we understand that you hate everything, except blackberry. Perhaps you should check out MySpace. All the cool kids are using it....

Also, I have not mentioned BB in this thread. Perhaps you were alluding to my desire to have a phone do the things a phone should do? Is that really all that much to ask? I've had massive problems on FroYo and some on iOS as well (although I haven't owned the iP4), and the call issues with both of those platforms was extensive, especially when you take into account signal strength and radio performance (although with the Android devices that can vary between manufacturers if I'm not mistaken). I think it would surprise you if you knew that my personal cell phone is not a Blackberry at all. I'm sorry you had problems with yours, but with all the ones I've had, I've not had those issues. Every platform has those people with their horror stories, I was one of them with my run of iOS devices, but I understood I wasn't the norm, and just had some bad luck with them. Since you have already bought one, you look at it from the point of what it does or doesn't do for you post purchase. For me, it's more about do I really want to dump $500+ on an item with limited functionality. Especially since I've been getting by just fine without it. They are cool, but I'll keep my money until whoever has the best one decides its time to open it up. Really, a USB port surely wasn't impossible to put on it. (ipad) In the end, it is a tribute to Apple's great marketing. Anyone big in marketing knows that products serve to fulfill needs. If you don't have a need that your product fulfills, you create a need. So far, I have been convinced that I don't have that need.

I don't consider that to be an adequit solution. So, I have 3 options.
Buy the $500+ tablet, then buy the dongle and end up with a big stub sticking out the side which will most likely get lost or broken. With no immediate reason or need for it. -or- Save all that money and inconvenience. -or- Buy another Tablet (Samsung Galaxy 10.1) that has enhanced functionality. But still have no immediate reason or need for it. For a company whose premise is to simplify and create convenience, they sure do make it difficult and irritating sometimes. No thank you.

And then there is Dropbox. Save the file into Dropbox (yes, iPad lets you do that) and it magically appears on all of your computers/iPads/iPhones/Android devices.
