Burning through clear on respray

Recently got the corner of the rear bumper resprayed to repair some scruff marks. The guy who did the touch up did a pretty good job at blending and layed extra clear coat as I told him I will be polishing it.

Just did a few past on the bumper today and the repainted area held up well and the paint is glossing up nicely. However, further away from the repaired spot where the clear coat was blend in with the original paint work, I can see the extra layer of clear being burnt through. Obviously the paint below still has the original clear coat so no paint is exposed.

Is there anyway to "polish" out and make the clear coat blend in more or should I simply stop and leave it as it is before it goes too far.
