What the Hell is this???

Hey eveyone quick question. I notice on my bumper and on my right front fender something on the paint. It looks weird. it's not sticky, doesn't come off with regular car wash, and my only idea is clay bar to get it out. Here are some pics maybe you guys can tell me what it is or how to take it out. I will bring it to the dealership and complain. Also the front side panel pain looks purple WTF did they do to my car!.. The steering pulls a little to the right, the fender is purple and this thing is on my bumper... I'm going to raise hell when i go their on thursday.

I looks like plastic burned into the bumper and a liquid went thru it... I tried rubbing it and nothing....

Pretty sketchy... I'd take it to the dealer asap... can you prove it was like that when you got it?

nope. i picked up my car after the job was done to the fender. And the car was given to me dirty. I didn't wash it. Then i notice the steering wheel pulls a little to the right on bumps so i took it in for that and they re aligned it and told me to set an appointment to get it inspected. THEN i notice the thing but thought ahhhh it'll come out with a wash.. I wash my car and nothing... Then i really look at the pain, and shit looks a bit purple (the fender)

The first pic almost looks like adhesive residue and if so is easy to remove. What work did they do previously to the fender? Could they have taped off that area and not removed the adhesive?

You may want to check your tire pressure for a slight pull in your steering. If you've done that already and found nothing amiss you're right to have the dealer check and correct it.

put some polish to it first before you take it in. from my experience cars with metallic flake in them are the hardest to match.

hope things work out

I'll bet $10 the car was repainted and that is overspray. Looks like they re-sprayed the fender.

Edit: did you have the car repainted at all, or is this news to you? Either way, a medium grade clay bar should remove that overspray.

That sticky stuff looks like some sort of botched masking attempt. And the purple is probably some sort of repaint. Did you get into an accident or have the fender repainted? You need to tell us more details if you want us to help you.

EDIT: Looks like you messed up your fender by reading some of your posts. That is definetly an unnacceptable paint match job. That body shop didn't know what they were doing...The stuff by the headlight is probably overspray too. Take it to a different, REPUTABLE body shop.

And they can't "just" paint it space gray. They need to mix the colors to match it.

Doesn't look like overspray to me on the bumper. Could they have masked off that part of the bumper with some kind of polythene sheet that stuck/melted?

Can you feel something is stuck on or is it smooth?

Try claying and see what happens?

about the repainting the fender, i have an appointment with BMW tomorrow and will tell them that this is not acceptable. It does look like a lighter side of sparklin graphite.... I am NOT satisfied with the job that i paid for and demand to repaint.

About the things on the bumper, it's actually not sticky at all. when i glide my finders throught it, the rest of the bumper feels like glass (smooth) and when i reach that part, it feels like it is covering it (the smoothness) but not sticky and not raised. like a old car when you put your fingers thru it. My girlfriend says it could be the absorbor dry towel but i highly doubt it since it's only their and not in the trunk, roof, door, or anywhere else.

About the tire, yes i have checked the tire presure. I actually thought of that first before taking it to the dealer on saturday. At high speeds it does go ok. But on bumps and stuff it pulls 1 to 2 inches to the right all the time.

Def getting this straightened out!

Ohh and no i have not tried clay baring it yet. I was going to try it but didn't want to mess with it and then BMW tell me i was tampering with it and it's my fault. I do want to try on a little area though to see if they don't do anything about it, i can take it off.

It looks like something(plastic) got melted their. And it's not raised and harsh, but it is smooth, not glass smooth, but smooth. When i feel the rest of the bumper, the rest feel more smoother like silkey clean and my fingers glide but on that area you feel the glossy feeling is not there but my fingers are still able to slide. Good idea. Let them look at it before you do anything to it and don't give them any chance to say you caused it or had anything else to do with it.

Don't think so -- it looks just like the ghosting I have on my painted reflectors, which were wrapped in a slightly-sticky plastic sheeting (body shop mask?) for shipping. Niether wash nor clay took it off; I haven't had a chance to polish yet.
