Question Cleaning old wheel weight goo off rims?

Whats the best solvent you have found for getting the old wheel weight goo off your rims?

Tyre fitters never clean it off, probably as its such a pain.

I've tried all sorts, white spirit, meths, WD40, petrol, T Cut etc etc etc.

Nothing seems to shift it without a lot of elbow grease.

Tips anyone?

Cheers

Yves

I spent hours scraping old wheel weight glue of my M3 rims.

Best thing I have used so far is RS sticky stuff remover. (http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/5063618/)

Spray it on, let it soak in for a while and scrape with an old credit card.

Yes, petrol and an old card, or for very stubborn residue, nail poilish remover, but use at your own risk.

I used paint thinners it did a great job BUT you must be so careful if it gets on the front of your alloy it will without doubt lift the lacquer off the wheel then you will be very very

Yves,

"3M 08984 Adhesive Cleaner", a slow acting solvent designed exactly for removing glue, 3M tape, lip spoiler adhesive residue etc, etc.

Safe on all paints, ABS Plastic etc.

Comes in 1L can, available from Paint Factors, a little pricey if I remember, but not as pricey as melting or discolouring your paint !!

Michael.
