LCI LIKE HEADLIGHTS ON A PRE LCI E90 TIAG/ Help with Led Angel Eyes
Hello Fellow members, I've been working on this project for a while now & doing plenty of research. We all know how ugly those ambers look compared to the new LCI look. Well since I don't have $1500 to spend on a pair of new headlights, I decided to open up the headlight housings and do a modification to get the similar Lci look. I opened up the headlights to paint part of the amber and vinyl the upper part with white carbon fiber( 3m Di-Noc). I know that is hard to visualize now how it'll look on my E90, But How does it look?
Also, I've been researching on types Angel Eye Led rings to put on. I like the OSS look but, I rather stick with OEM Rings like Marc/ fdriller. I like how they kept OEM Rings and glued the individual smd led's on the back of the rings. I will also attempt to wire the ambient controller chips just how fdriller did but thats the next project. For now i just need to find the right smd leds to glue on the back of the ring housings so i can glue my headlights back and use my car again. I want my rings color white with a bluish tint kind of like the new 335i coupes. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Theses are the LEDs I used:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...00-000WE3CT-ND 5000k, pure white with a very slight blue hue. If you want a bluer color, like oss, opt for something in the 6000k range. I beleive OSS is 6500k-6700k. You'll need 2 of these, one per headlight: http://www.ledsupply.com/03023-d-e-1000p.php And I can help you through the logic board part when your ready. Or hopefully I'll have my DIY done by then. I just haven't had time to work on it since school started. Mainly because I don't have space/don't want to lug my jack from home to school. I'm aiming to finish the DIY guide by Thanksgiving. |

Btw I think your best bet for getting an "LCI" look, is to sand blast the inside of your lenses.
To be honest, the half wrapped reflector looks a bit odd. |

Thanks Fdriller for the help. Hey, digikey doesn,t seem to carry the smd leds in color/wavelength around 6000k. Do you know what the OEM angel eyes in new coupes wavelength is? Will you say closer to yours 5000k or OSS 6500k-6700k?

The new '11 angel eyes are probably around 7000k - 8000k. I'm not sure which LEDs would have that wavelength. If you search on digikey, there is a drop down where you can select the wavelength. Any LED similar to the Cree xlamp leds I used will work. If you they are driven at a smaller current, you'll need to get either 700mA or 500mA drivers instead of the 1000mA. |
