Clay Bar Windshield

Hey everyone, I did a search for clay bar and windshield and found a few results but I have a couple questions. I have about a million little chips, which I guess are caused by everyday driving and I want to try to clay bar and polish to see if it helps.

My question is, what should I use to spray the surface while clay barring? Water, window cleaning spray, or what? I know when you clay bar your car, you usually use some kind of detailing spray but I'm afraid that will make my windshield all greasy. Has anyone done this before?

Thanks in advance.

Do it all the time, you can us a QD or a window cleaner. I use the leftover clay from paint on glass and wheels (throw it out after the wheels).

As for your fear of getting it greasy, there will be oils left from polishing so why worry. I use Qd on my windshield all the time.

FYI glass is very hard so do not expect a lot of correction, you are doing this by machine right? I also use KAIO or just regular sealant on my glass as well after polishing.

I also clay bar my windshield, it is especially easy to get bugs off and such.

I have Dodo Juice born to be slippery clay lube, but I've also used Optimum ID with the same end result.

If your windshield is in bad shape (hazy) and especially if it has chips - which will make it prone to cracking - call your insurance company, perhaps they will replace it.

Thanks for the advice Bobble. I plan on doing this on the paint and window this weekend. It's my first time, so thanks again.

Yeah it looks really bad. I thought it was grease spots all over but when I look closer, there are millions of tiny pits.

one piece of caution, when you havent clayed your windshield in a long time, you can actually make it worse because you will pull a lot of dirt from the small chips in the glass leaving you with "more chips - actually already there, just filled in)

so once you clay it, if its too bad, replace it for safety sake. your glass will be "cleaner" but might possibly be "less clear"

^Food for thought.

I just clayed my windshield and put Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant on my exterior glass and headlights and it worked brilliantly ... it not only increased clarity but should also make future cleanings easier (especially bugs). And it will provide some protection against small particles and such since it's a sealant and will harden.

I'd definitely call your insurance company and see if you can get a new windshield ... yours sounds dangerous. With the winter coming up, the chance of getting a crack is even greater.
