Steering wheel buttons - control whatever

I would like to know what is needed to use the steering wheel buttons to control remotely installed radar detector. Or what ever for that matter.

I would like to use the left hand side buttons on the steering wheel. I would assume that using them to control the voice alerts should be straight forward. It might be more difficult to e.g. use them to switch a unit (e.g. Beltronics STI driver) on/off.

Where do those wires behind the buttons end up? How can they be intercepted?

There are no wires per se that you can tap into, the MFL controls talk directly to the bus. You would have to tap into the bus and interpret commands.
