Royal Mail ruined my life!!

Because of the stupid postal system, I have to wait at least an extra week to get my new car. Arrgghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sent off my personal reg. registration form to the dealer over a week ago via registered post so that they could put my number plate directly on the new car. After 1 week they still did not have the letter - so yesterday I assumed it was lost and got the DVLA to issue a duplicate to me. (They would not send it directly to the dealer)

Today the original arrived with the dealer (8 days after posting) but the original is now void since the issue of the duplicate, so they have to discard it.

Now I have to wait until the duplicate arrives with me, then send it to the dealer before he can go thru the process of registering the car - which can take 10 working days to turnaround.

To top things off, the car arrived with the dealer today (5 days early) and will just have to sit there til all this cr@p is sorted out!!

I am normally very pleased with the efficiency of the postal system, but it sure picked the wrong letter to misplace this time.

Tis killing me to know that the car will just have to sit there because of a stupid delay in the post

Sorry for the rant - but am sooooooo pissed off today.

I felt very tempted to do so but because I am from N.I. it would cause serious delays on getting the personal plate onto the car.

As it is, I have to get the dealer to register the car in their name first with the new plate and then for them to sell it to me.

Apparently our great DVLA organisation cannot put a personal number plate directly onto a N.I. registered car and it has to first be registered on a GB car and then transferred to a N.I. car.

No doubt if they were to try and put it directly onto a N.I. car, it would mean going thru 25 different administrative departments instead of the normal 20

That's rough. I hope that the duplicate arrives with you in a more timely fashion and you can put all this behind you and enjoy the D.

I had similar issues where the post office lost my reg stuff on the way back from DVLA, the dealer said he could reg it anyway and sort it out later but luckily it all came back in time....just need car to arrive now.

I nearly got caught out with this on my last car. It was a GB car but sat in NI. It hadn't been registered in NI. But it needed an MOT so that I could drive it in GB mainland.

I had insurance but you've probably guessed it - it had no tax too.
talk about catch 22.

So I asked the dealer to ship it to GB port then drove straight to pre booked MOT station!

I think the DVLA only looks after vehicles in Great Britain, that’s why it can’t handle your private plate on a NI car.

That must be the case, but surely you'd think they would have some connection with the DVLA department in NI - considering we are all part of the UK.

The DVLA and DVLNI are two separate organisations. Bit like the left hand not talking to the right hand

www.dvla.gov.uk

http://www.dvlni.gov.uk

The MOT test in NI is after four years not three years like mainland UK.

I don't even think the DVLNI is part of the Department for Transport, I think it sits under the Department of the Environment, so there’s no chance of them talking to each other.
