Stream Audio via Bluetooth
Ok, I have searched and searched but cant find a clear answer.
I have 2009 335i with i-drive and use a Iphone 4 with the latest OS 5 software. I dont understand why you cant stream your songs to the cars system via bluetooth. If there is a fix or something please share! I have heard accounts of this working fine and then others say its not possible. I just want to make full use of a 800$ sound system, thats all..... Thanks!

Bluetooth steaming was only fitted to E90's from late 2010.
My car is a Dec 2010 build date and does have the bluetooth audio, however it is well documented the quality is not as good. Best to stick with the usb connection. |

Your car doesn't have the A2DP bluetooth profile to stream audio.
Like the guy above said, it wasn't included in your production year. You can buy a bluetooth receiver and plug it into your AUX port though. I use a blackberry stereo gateway and it is very good quality sound. The iPhone does a good job of integrating both the BT receiver and the BMW BT. It acts exactly like when you have headphones plugged into your iPhone. Music fades/pauses, call rings, when it ends, music resumes and fades back on. Any BT receiver will work. Key word is RECEIVER not transmitter. Belkin makes one as well. |

Just wondering if anyone knows, but is it a hardware problem or a software, coding issue?

in the strictest sense possible its frobably a firmware issue but in reality its a hardware issue. The TCU in your car doesnt support the BT A2DP profile. BMW has remedied this with new hardware (combox) that does support the profile.

I think it's a software issue BUT in order to stream audio, you would need to interface it with the head unit as well, since bluetooth isn't handled by the HU. It's handled by the MULF or TCU module depending on whether or not you have BMW Assist. (TCU is for BMW Assist)
So you would need to program more than 1 module and I don't think you can just flash your own firmware to the MULF or TCU module, let alone different bluetooth profiles. |
