Amsterdam
Anybody gonna be around next wknd?
I'm meeting my gf in London on Thurs then we're heading to The Dam for a few days to unwind before hopping to Rome. We'll be meeting some mutual friends and stuff, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone would be in the neighbourhood... What do you guys like to do whilst in Amsterdam? |

Come on man; what to do in Amsterdam?
Visit a museum and the Anne Frank house I went there a year and a half ago and that's what I did.

there is another fantastic museum that starts with an 'r'....can't remember (too early).
besides museums, Anne frank house, you have to go to the Heineken experience...maybe take a train ride to Leiden (college town like 20 min away) and just walk around. |

Also the Van Gogh museum, a canal boat tour, you should at least see the RLD, and I liked The Hague (which has plenty of things to see, so spend a day there).

Rijksmuseum is incredible, every time I have been to amsterdamn part of it had been closed for renovations, hopefully thats all done.
Leiden is pretty cool, they have a huge flower garden that was pretty nice to go to. The Hague was also great city to visit, the MC Escher museum is there, one of my fav museum I have ever been to Both are about a 45min train ride from Amsterdamn Check out the RLD and if you are into coffee shops, my favs are The Noon, Amnesia and Barneys |

defintely take a canal boat tour. It seems touristy but you can schedule one with a nice dinner and it really is the best way to see the city. There are two main "squares" where all the action is for night life. Leidsplein (sp) and Rembrandtstein (might be slightly off on name) have all kinds of great bars and restaurants and there is always cool street performers.

Guys... thanks so much for all the advice!
We decided to stay at a boutique hotel right on Rembrandtsplein. It's not the best, but time spent in the room won't be to admire the hotel.. We're definitely checking out Rijksmuseum and I think the canal tour might be a great thing. I'm going to try to pin down exactly how to do that on Friday from London since I'm staying at her place there till we leave. We actually just decided to maybe extend this by a week and check out Rome and Paris before going back to London. But, I got those cities down for things to do. |

Albert Cuyp market is nice too in the Oud-Zuid area. A bit less touristic.
My grandma was born there. You can also visit the Heineken brewery/ museum nearby the centre at the Stadhouderskade. Also in the centre is the Beurs(oldest stock exchange in the world) Beursplein/Damrak. Beware of the Occupy Whateverguys though Last edited by Robin_NL; 11-19-2011 at 06:57 AM.. |
