Custom Exhuast

I plan on getting a 3inch down pipe in to a 3inch piping that ends with a muffler in to quad tips. You think its cheaper to just get the catback or do this custom?

Let me know cause ill have the 335xi sedan (n54) By march. So i would like to think about everything.

Best bet would be to contact a local muffler shop and ask how much it would cost. I'm sure you will have to choose between the quality of the piping, type of muffler, tips, etc.

Yeah i got a meinke around here but i was thinking of doing this with my friend. He has a welder so we could just buy the stainless steel piping and do this.

But the exhuast i really like is turner motor-sports, and the Ams. I dont really want to leave my car at a muffler shop, but i think a 3 in stainless steel piping in to a muffler and just weld in 4 tips. I want this to be perfect, this could either be cheap or expensive.

So basically you bought the 3inch down pipe then welded on a straight pipe all the way to the borla mufflers.? I was going to get a 3inch downpipe and a borla catback, but thats 3inch to 2.5 inch. I want to hear your set up.

I have a 07 e92 335i 6 speed manual. I had meineke cut off my mufflers, center resonators and cats and weld 3" piping in there place, it sounds soooo good. There is no performance difference between straight pipes and aftermarket mufflers and aftermarket catless downpipes, they are both straight through. The straight pipes sound soooo much better and you save thousands of dollars!!!!! Meineke charged me $400 for everything. The exhaust is really loud but its not like the annoying high pitch hondas. It has a really low grumble like a mustang or camaro. They welded the O2 sensors from the old cats on to the straight pipes so the car would not throw a code and can pass inspection.

Just FYI,

Several people have done a custom single 3 inch exhaust and reverted back to stock/aftermarket. It's extremely lound and has horendous drone, listen to YouTube clips of the HPF's single 3".

39nas-t,

why didn't you just go with an aftermarket down pipe?

I was thinking of getting the MS 3" downpipes and cutting off the flange where it goes to 2.5" and re-welding on a 3" flange. Then making a custom 3" exhaust. I'm surprised there isn't a TRUE 3" turbo back exhaust on the market for our cars. Maybe COBB can make it happen?
