Yeah, open it up to see we're it's dialed into. Start at just above the halfway setting.

Check the chip to verify that it is the latest one - should help with the problem. Under $10 bucks from BMS for the update. Was suppose to fix the problem, but some still have problems when turned to 100%.

I can't run mine above 80% without occasionally setting off the check engine light. I can't really tell a difference between the 80% and 100%...so it stays at 80. Even so...when I bought it from Burger, I was told that it was the newest chip and that I would have no issues running at 100% like most people want to do.

On the OP maybe it was broken before he received it, maybe he installed it wrong, etc. If he needs help he can always email BMS. Mike |

JBD or BMW
Tbh, after seeing what the inside of the JBD unit looks like, I have assumed that it's not the car that results in code throws but variation between the JBD units. That dial on the inside is a total piece of crap. Don't get me wrong. I love my JBD, but I'm curious if anyone has exchanged or swapped units, or tried a problematic unit on more than one car. Basic troubleshooting.

I recently installed the JBD in a friend of mine's car.... It set at 95%. After install, took the car out. Pushed it hard. Triggered a code. Turned ignition on and off. Pushed it hard, triggered a code again. Turned ignition on and off. Push is hard, NO MORE codes. Car has been driving at WOT, to redline and overall aggressively, and has not triggered a code in 650 miles... Possible that the car adapted and all is good now. But, consensus seems to say, 80% is the safest/highest setting for not triggering codes. Plenty of people run at 100% with no codes, whereas some people cant run it above 65%.... that being said.... There is a little dial inside. It SEEMS OBVIOUS to me what position = which % setting, but my guess it some people still think they're setting it to one setting, but really are mistaken. With the JBD in, gone is the laggy throttle response, and gone is the ability not to induce traction control at 2.5k rpms in sub-60 degree weather. |

Mike,
Could you address a couple of questions that I have, which are mostly related to my newness to my car. I have BMW Assist active. Will it transmit any code it receives to the dealership? Will it only do this when I activate it? Is there a priority of codes it will transmit? (like SES no, but limp mode yes) Also, I think I have read that the CAN tool will not erase a limp mode error. Is that true? If so, isnt this a red flag for the dealer, given how wildly popular the JBD is and will continue to be? I have also red that the little white connector piece we remove before install is brittle and likely will break after a few install/uninstalls. Are these parts that your company can acquire and provide for sale? Obviously my concerns center around my warranty.....esp considering I plan on getting it extended to 100k. Thanks in advance. |
