It is in serious need of a "DEFusion".
Note the logo on the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Bottle. The VW parts guy said they get lots of BMW and Mercedes owners coming in for the DEF. LOL

I dont know, you could put water in a bottle and pass it off as DEF and most people wouldnt know the difference. I trust VW to put the right stuff in bottles if it is going to be put in cars they warrantee....
Anyway, I posted that to show people my new "funnel". I picked it up today at Wallmart. In toto (well not including the light stand and duct tape), it costs about $10, but it allows pouring from the 2.5 gal container with both hands. ![]()

I must admit, even with this setup, I spilled a bit. I pour the 2.5 gallon bottle with one hand on the handle and the other supporting the bottle on the bottom. I learned that the bottom hand needs a latex glove. The DEF sloshes around pretty good in the bottle.

I have used a small funnel, but it takes a long time and I had to first move the fluid to a smaller container because the big one is too heavy to pour with one hand. Then the small funnel fills up and you have to wait for it to drain -- tedious.
As previously mentioned, there is a smaller container which is designed to screw onto the inlet in place of the cap. I havent ever had one of these, but I have read that others have adapted these to be able to refill them (apparently they are designed to be one-shot things), so if you buy one once, you can use it and refill it and use it again. Also, maybe you could cut the bottom off and use it as a funnel but you would probably need to attach it to a stand like I did in the above photo with the transmission oil funnel.

When it stops flowing in. By using the bottle screwed into the fill port, because it is not very high, you will always be below the vent of the tank. If you fill using a hose from higher up (as in the picture at the beginning of this thread) you could overfill the tank and have DEF come out the vent which will only crystalize and possibly plug it.

Pick-up a $8 gallon bottle from VW dealership and drill a 1" hole in the side at the bottom (not ON the bottom though). Go to autozone etc or your local truck stop and get a few gallons of the stuff cheap, pour it into the jug with the hole and put a rubber cork in it so you dont splash it out while you're pouring.
Fill one gallon at a time. When the fill tank equalizes with the bottle, you're done! |

Well, I would rather spill a bit of DEF than have high octane race gas spewing all over the place.
