O2 sensor
So I have looked all over this forum and am unable to find a DIY on replacing the O2 sensors before and after the Catalytic Converters. I just had the codes go off for these and want to replace them myself. If anyone knows of a DIY on here that I missed or on another forum please let me know. The closest I got was a post about changing down pipes to see where they were located near the turbos.

Try cleaning your MAF sensor first. I had codes go for both banks at the same time (which led me to believe it wasn't the O2 sensors), cleaned the MAF sensor and all was well.

No I just had 2 codes, one for each cylinder bank, for what I believe was too lean fuel/air mixture. Figured both O2 sensors can't go bad together at once.
N54/N55 definitely trickier fuel system to deal with. You're not still under warranty? |

unfortunately no im at 61k miles, but with the way this turbo wastegate recall is looking, that might just might have affected my O2 sensors so I am thinking about giving the stealership a call to see whats up

I wrote a DIY for the Bank2 Sensor1 O2 sensor about a year ago, but it was for the N52 not the N54. I'd imagine the procedure is similar. You need to remove the engine cover to get to the sensor cables, then get the proper O2 removal tool, I used an offset-split socket type tool. The sensors come out pretty easily since the manifolds are stainless steel and BMW installs the sensors with anti-seize at the factory. The new sensors come loaded with anti-seize.

Last week I got the SES light. I drove to Auto Zone and used their code reader which gave me the P112D. I cleared it and P112D returned this week. I took it to the stealership today and gave the SR the details. He tried to assure me that there's no way the O2 sensor can go bad with only 50,000 plus miles on the vehicle. Really????!!!!!! I can already see what a pain in the ass this is going to be if I go the stealership route. I'm considering replacing the sensor myself.

yea one bad missfire and they can burn up. freaky things happen, if i were that SR i wouldnt argue that this doesnt happen at 50k miles, i would probably say this rarely happens because look at the massive recall they have on turbos and fuel pumps, personally id take it to an indy if i were you

Soooooo......... I went to the stealership to for the scheduled appointment. That was a waste of 45 minutes that I won't get back. No loaner available and no 02 sensor in stock. The only available appointment is on the 8th of March and I go on a 7 month deployment on the 10th. I have warranty with this half ass co. named AUL. The only reason why I 'm letting the dealer tackle this is because it's a $100 deductible vices paying $200.00+ for the sensor once AUL approves the repair.

OK, check this out. I went back to Autozone before doing a wiper/oil/air filter change, tire rotation and MAF sensor cleaning. I decided to give the scan tool another shot and this is what it spitted out: P112D: "Fuel Monitoring and Manufacture Control", and P2298: "O2 Bank 2 Sensor 1 Out Of Range During Deceleration". Cleared them and within less than an hour the SES light returned. Also Idle is getting a little rougher during start-up. Engine RPMs fluctuating.

i am getting the same rough idle as you are, and mine said that the lambda probe was over heated on the front banks one sensor. I tried clearing it too because a tuner on here said it might have just been the gas that i put in the car, exactly like you the check engine light came back on and the code was still there. I am in the process of waiting for my O2 sensor to arrive in the mail as we speak. It is just frustrating to see the check engine light everyday, whats worse is i have to stare at my adaptive headlight error code too, thats my next project, i will keep you in the loop if this fixes the problem

I Finally got the car to the dealership yesterday. As I mentioned B4 I wanted the warranty to make it's first debut. It seems as if the bank 2 sensor 1 is the sensor that monitors the 4,5, and 6th cylinders. That's the upper stream. But in any instance, there is definitely a air/fuel management issue when you feel that rough idle. Let's see what the techs come up with. Staying tuned.
