My fogs suck.

I was recommended Mtec 4750K by a vendor here to match my OSS, and they are awful. They match my OEM 4300k D1S, nowhere near the ~6700k I needed. They're also extremely weak. I can stare directly at it from 1 foot away and my eyes won't hurt. They did not work in recent fog at all.

Any suggestions on some powerful (but not too powerful to where they don't work in fog) and color accurate fogs?

Maybe they aren't aimed properly?

They're not meant to be blinding. That would be illegal.

The higher you go on the Kelvin scale, the lower the light output. So 6700K will provide less light than 4750K.

I've always heard that 3000k is good for fog. If you want brighter then go HID with 3000k bulbs.

Ohh I didn't realize you were talking about halogen bulbs. Yea you might want to try HIDs.

I've been trying to find something to match my LS3 halos also but there's none out there lol. Not gonna waste any money trying out different color combos, but as of right now I don't think there's anything that matches that 6700k color. I do have 6700k D1S bulbs which match perfectly but I don't even turn my fogs on.

If the LS3 rings are 6700k then a bulb around that color temp should match.

H11 HID $40
4700uf capacitor's $10
Error free fogs that are amazing that cost $50 well worth it

Thanks for all the suggestions. HID was the last thing I wanted to do, but it seems there's no choice when wanting matching fogs. The only thing is, though, with it being so high powered (and not yellow), won't it lose its ability to cut actual fog?

Even the stock fogs are pretty useless in lighting the road in foggy and or dark situations. I think the primary purpose is to let others see the front of your car easier, kinda like day time running lights.

From a purely functional standpoint, I think HID fogs is a bad idea. It will be extremely bright without any cut off, so not only will you probably blind other drivers, it's just going to reveal a huge wall of fog in front of you. If you've ever turned on brights in a snow storm, it would be like that. I've seen HID in non projector low beam housings, and it sucks during thick weather. I actually put HID in my fogs, but purely for show to match the colors all around. I never used them before, and never will in traffic. Against a wall, they are brighter and shoot twice as high as the low beams (same brand and color). In a projector housing, they are probably great. It's not the power and "cutting through the fog" (in fact, the point is to shoot down at the road below the fog and not illuminate and bounce off the fog like the low beams), it's the fact that it will just shine all in front of you.

Nope.....HID 3000K fogs are money.....HID anything in the 6000K range is useless in fog, and THAT'S what you're referring to.....Fog lights has to do with Kelvin scales more so than the way it's projected, ie, HID vs Halogen. Of course, HID > Halogen, 3000k > anything else.....When it comes to functional fog lights.

You need to decide first what it is you are trying to do: match your OSS or make your fog lights work in fog. You can't reasonably have both.

Functional fog lights will be yellow and not blindingly bright.

They're the best match regarding color combinations between OSS and D1S 6000k.

I needed some contrast between my OSS/ D1S combo, cornering lights, and my fogs, and my fogs were just for looks. The mtec Cosmo blue 4750k H3s and H8s were a cool white for me, with just a touch of teal, nowhere near the 4300k kelvin. Maybe your set is defective?

Also I don't think anyone will ever match the fogs to OSS perfectly, not even the D1S xenons.

OSS's diamond white LED hue is nearly impossible to match with a halogen/ HID solution IMO, I think they are somewhere between 6700k and 6000k actually. Luis, can you chime in here?

The closest match to OSS was Mike at F1Autohaus with his 'custom' fog set up. Those aren't for sale any more, but I have a set at home.

Take a look at HPB's HID kit. Jeff has the 4300k on his car and they look awesome:

No, I am referring to HID in a non projector housing blasting all over the place. You can google and find many articles explaining why the color doesn't matter. But I'm done, I'm simply stating from experience about the projection part of it, OP can throw HID in his fogs and find out first-hand.

I love my HID fogs.

I have 4300K which match the OEM HID perfect.

I came pretty darn close to matching my OSS!

Very well, thank you. Still disappointed that you "decontented" the car, but understand your thought process very well. I'm focusing more on unseen things like M3 suspension, versus appearance. I might sell the F1 fogs so I can use the money for that type of mod.
