Rimlox - worth the money?
I know you guys love your wheels. I'm about to pull the trigger on Rimlox, but want to know if there's any alternative that's just as good.
Rimlox details: 1. Expensive 2. TWO keys in existance - 1 for dealer, 1 for you. All lugs/keys are a one-off pattern. 3. YOUR key is sealed and must be resealed every time its used 4. If your wheels are stolen, Rimlox pays for the wheels, tires, and tpms in full provided that you can show proof that your key is sealed. 5. All that shit is inconvenient, but it's the only brand I've found that pretty much guarantees anything. I live in/go to shady areas, so a few hundred now is better than many thousands later. Thoughts?

I never met you before but if you gotta ask this question, then it's a no in my book. You have doubts in buying it? Just curious. Not trolling or anything.

ive never heard of these... how much are they?
if the price is semi-decent then theyre worth it, especially if theres a lot of wheel theft in your area. You'll for sure have piece of mind if not anything else

Are you considering buying these to protect your VMR wheels? The average set of VMR's cost around $1000. Then add $1000 for decent tires and TPMS. Paying $400 for those locks is paying 20% of your total cost for a little insurance. I suppose if you live in a higher crime area and must park your car outside it might be justified, but other than that extreme situation it wouldn't be worth it to me.
I'm not knocking VMR, I have a set of their wheels too, just saying the cost for the insurance Rimlox offers seems excessive.

If they can't steal your rim, they'll steal your car, and get the rims eventually IMO.
Money is probably better invested in security system, remote camera's viewable from smartphone, etc.. or RFID GPS Tag your rims

Very true. If they want it...they'll get it. Plan and simple. If they can't take your wheels...they'll flatbed your car and take everything. Most of the time...they leave BMW's alone. Honda's, Acura's, etc...usually get picked on for some weird reason. Can you actually RFID/GPS a set of wheels? If so...how? |

Wheel locks and things of that nature do one thing, they keep honest people honest. If someone really wants your wheels, as stated they'll figure out a way to get them. In the past I've used Euro locks (such as the ones found HERE) for a little piece of mind.

The wheels in question retail for $5000 - the question is do you think a top of the line wheel lock is worth it? If not for the warranty, the locks themselves are nearly unbreakable.
With that said, thoughts?

But that's exactly where they come in - the wheels will be paid for!

I see, its a win win situation for you i guess (just the cost of the locks). If everything goes smoothly with the replacement of your stolen wheels then i dont see why not.

AKA for 95% of the time I'm covered. The other 5% I could be out the cost of wheels + $300-400 in locks. Hmm. I guess 300-400 long run is nothing, lol.

Let me understand this: So you get a key...and RIMLOX keeps the other correct? In the case of stolen wheels...they will refund/buy you a new set of wheels only if your key is still sealed (unused) correct? What happens if you just got your tires rotated and used the key to unlock your wheels? Would you have to send it in to be resealed again? |

Doesn't your home owner's insurance or other insurance cover your wheels if they are stolen? Maybe im just an idiot.
Maybe use that 400 bucks for a down payment on a new apt out of the crappy area... all kidding aside i wouldnt waste your money. so you come out one morning and your wheels are gone... yea, im pissed, but you have to look at it this way... #1 you now have a day off work. #2 you get to get NEW wheels.. again... who doesnt like buying new wheels? ![]() some people are just straight HATERS!.

![]() Anyway, I know a truly determined and professional wheel thief will take the wheels if they want them. I'm OK with that. What I want is something that will deter the common thief, not the Mission Impossible team. Unfortunately, I've had the windows smashed before ![]() Thanks for all the advice guys! I'll make my decision sometime this month ![]()
