Morel Hybrid Ovation II 4"

Well I opened up the Morel box tonight and found that the supplied crossovers include variable amplitude and crossover slope. My question is, do I go forward with the crossover response as-is, or as modified by the possibilities offered by the set-up? What have users been doing, especially in the 3?

Since the mid and tweeter are located close together I have the crossover slopes set at -12db. Since the tweeter is more on axis and the mid off-axis I prefer the tweeter attenuation in the -3db position.

Mount the crossovers in a accessible location and then try the different tweeter levels out to suit you.

4" Morel Hybrid Ovation II - Crossover Settings.

I agree that the 12 dB/octave slopes are what I want and will give the 3dB cut on the tweeters first try. In all likelihood, -3dB or 0 dB will be the end result, so I should only have to dismantle the door panels twice. would have to do this anyway if I found an external home for the crossover.

Thanks for providing your experience. Any other folks running this combination in a 3 series?

I have the HO II's and I left mine at 0. They sound perfect the way they are.

I just installed a set, left setting as they were out of the box. All I can say is WOW what a difference, makes the whole stock system 10x better, I can't believe how much better everything sounds with just the fronts changed.

These seem to be the most popular settings.

OP, what did you settle on?

Hybrid Ovation II high pass crossover level

I left mine set on the default level, 0 dB. Sounds fine to me, so I left it there. I have not put in the underseat mid-woofers yet, but the Hybrid Ovation II with the JL 600/6 amplifier is a big improvement. I am running the level to the OEM underseat woofer up compared to the other channels which are near minimum sensitivity.

The new amp and speakers make the seat belt gong more obnoxious that normal. I would like to get the gong deprogrammed, but so far have not found anyone to do it for a reasonable price.

This doesn't mean I drive without my seatbelts on, but sometimes I start the car in my driveway without the belts and the gong is pretty annoying.

That gong and the door open while the key is in the lock gong are all too loud with the stock system and even worse with an aftermarket system, imo.

What is the default slope for the woofer and tweeter crossover points? 12db?

Cool. So that appears to be what "everyone" uses in cars like ours. (okay, I have an e82 and not an e90 but the relative position of the door mids and sail tweeters are very similar.)

I guess opinions and practices around the tweeter attenuation differ. I'd love to hear others' thoughts...

The tweeter location really couldn't be more on axis or more in your ear than in our cars, which does make me think it's the use case Morel had in mind when creating the -3db option on the tweeters. But this is just a layperson's supposition, on my part.
