What else can I look forward to
Hi,
I have a 2007 335i E90. The last three months, I\'ve had to replace the water pump, the oil filter housing was leaking and repaired and the pulleys and drive belt were replaced, and there\'s a possible leak from the mechatronic sleeve. Also the radiator cap and a radiator hose were replaced due to leaking. With all this behind me, should it be relatively clear sailing or am I looking at a lot more problems. I\'m trying to decide what to do with this car. Any advice is appreciated.

Okay those are some good questions.
Mostly fun/spirited driving with a few family moments. The car has nearly 106,000 miles It is not Canadian, I'm here in California and it is well out of warranty. There are only suspension mods on the car, no engine mods.

Most of the items on your list are either a) Wear items that were probably due to be replaced or b) Items that (with the mileage you have on the car) were going to need to be addressed in the near future.
Owning a BMW your are all but certain to has a few $ repair bills. I think that most on here are handy enough to tackle many of the common issues that arise or take the preventative steps to assure that types of problem you have had never occur. I guarantee that if you hold onto the car for any appreciable time you are going to have an $ repair come along you can either look into the DIY route or make sure you have enough $ put away to pay for the repairs. I myself am out of warranty and purchased the car used. I thought about buying a third party warranty but decided it would be better to put money aside every month so when the inevitable happens I will have the $ to pay the repair man. I also am pretty handy so all the little things the BMW classifies as "lifetime" were changed as preventive maintenance. Just my .02 |

I just got my E90 last Wednesday, but on my E46 by the time you hit 100k miles, you were looking at the entire cooling system (water pump, thermostat, hoses, expansion tank, and possibly radiator. All belts/pulleys (which you had done already). Then add in the oilfilter housing gasket, valve cover gasket, Spark plugs (do same time as valve cover gasket), Crank case ventilation valve + four hoses, intake/throttle body elbows could have cracks, drive shaft flex disk (guibo) - not sure if a E90 has one as I have not been under the car yet (and center support bearing as long as you have it apart)... AT Transmission fluid for sure, differential oil, probably needs new RTABs and FCABs and lower control arms (which should tighten the steering and handling back up). May want to check the engine mounts too (I blew mine out by 60k miles but I am an agressive driver). And many of these may not apply to an E90. A lot of the Engine stuff was "related" so I tried to do it all together as you had to tear it apart anyway so it saved a lot of labor time... I get my parts from AutohausAZ.com, eeuroparts.com, tischerBMW (getbmwparts.com) or BMWpartsSource.com as they are a lot less than the SD dealers that are charging over retail for parts... I am also interested to learn what sort of "Preventive Maintenance" is needed on the E90s... I only have 56k miles but I am already thinking it is time to do the tranny fluid... |
