BMW 335i Oil filter quality/grade

Hi guys,

any experts out there who can define the quality of the bmw filter ?

is it better then store bought filters ? (trying to find a baseline)

does it provide additional filtering (due to surface area) to extend the oil change cycle ?

does it catch smaller particles then other brands ?

Everything I've read on oil changes pretty much state oil is fine for 10-15k or more but the filter should be changed at 7500 max.

thanks

ppp

BMW oil filters look like they are pretty well made... deep pleats, lots of pleats, solid construction.

Who knows whay micron they filter down too!?

They are probably better than a random brand of oil filter.... MANN and Hengst and Mahle are the BMW OEM suppliers which I tend to trust more than other companies for this sort of thing. Hopefully this helps.

BMW filters are made by the top brand European filter manufacturers

Usually the manufacturer that makes the entire filter unit also makes the filter for BMW (this sometimes changes later in the cars life, and BMW gets more than one make for a specific engine )

If I remember correctly the 335i filters are by MANN ( MANN+HUMMEL)

As for filter changes

They do last the whole time between reccomended changes, but many prefer to change it sooner to make shure its always in top top shape

Correct

off the top of my head

MANN currently makes the current 3 Series 6 Cylinder engine oil filters
Hengst currently makes the E39 540i engine oil filters

I'm looking at filters now... how about MAHLE? Or should I just go OEM?

The options I have are:

Mahle
Bosch
ALCO FILTER

Anyone? I'm leaning towards Mahle... but who knows? Or just stick with OEM?
