M badge clownage

Anyone else noticed that BMW are at it now?

Just a small thing I've noticed from the last few pictures of new BMW models.

I only think it suits the m cars keeps them distinct only on the back though the m badge on the front of the new m6 looks tacky IMO

If you cast your mind back to the E29 5 series they had a M535i aswell as a 535i and an M5. Is this bmw bringing an old thing back or cashing in on the M badge? The new M badged cars are supposed to be a bit more than just an M Sport. Not sure if we wwill see them in the UK though as for the m550d this is europe and US model as this has been designed for use with the X drive which is a model not established in the uk

Yeah but those are M cars.

Other than a few rare ones spotted in dealerships, which is prob the dealer trying to make cars look better than they are, M badges on the back are reserved for M models.

It's not going to stop folk putting them on their M-Sports though. I could go out and buy an M635CSi badge for my car, but an M635CSi it would not be!

I asked my dealer about this the other day and he confirmed that the UK would get the M550d in RWD guise rather than xDrive.

Im going off what I read on piston heads, the dealer might have made my day then, and also to back up your theory the white bmw above is not badged an 550dX

That’s a bit cheeky for someone who's clearly missed the point.

I know exactly what they are. I posted the pictures of them.

Yesterday on the M1 I saw an E60 520d M Sport with an M5 badge above the 520d badge. It looked pathetic.

lol.

There's nothing anyone can do about it, it's like the corsas and Saxos that have Halfords 'turbo' badges on them. There's a Mondeo STTDCi along the road from me that has an m power badge on the back and on the front grille. Someone's keyed it too, although I dunno if it's because of the badges, lol. The M badge thing is just BMW's equivalent.

What about that guy that badged his 320d as a 325 but put the pipes on upside down?!

What is you're point then?

I thought it was about sticking M badges on non M models, but the two pics you posted are officially "M" models... so i'm confused

I don't mind the one on the front of the M6. Probably because it's a cracking looking car!

I don't like the look of my neighbour much either.

I find that turning to look the other way works for me.

No problem with either of those, because they're on M cars - although the M550d looks a bit cumbersome, even on the back of an F10.

Sadly BMW's new half-baked M range will only play into the Clowns hands

50% of the pictures posted ARE M cars. As others have said. the car on the left is the new M6 - so I guess that can wear the badge with pride.

The car on the right I agree is an odity - BMW's new "inbetweeners" range - but hey, if it keeps the money flowing in so the "real" M cars continue, who cares.

Incidentally havent BMW confirmed the UK wont be getting these?

I think the badging on the M6 is excessive and the M550d moniker looks daft but I'm not opposed to the concept of the new M models.

Audi do exactly the same with their S range. The S4 and S5 make perfect sense and in no way devalue the RS range.
A lot of people out there want fast cars with normal running costs which is very achievable with todays technology.

Most M3 owners will buy the M3 over the 335i because of its badge and styling rather than its track performance. It's only the enthusiasts that really appreciate the true improvements the M3 offers so why not fill the gap with an M335i?

I agree.

Although I'm not a fan of the grill badge (probably because I've been conditioned into not liking it by being on this forum!) I don't really see the difference between the M sign being on the alloy, kick plate, or the steering wheel and it being on the grill.

As someone who is into cars, if I see an MSport 3 series with a badge on the grill I'm not fooled into thinking it's an M3, and it doesn't make me think the owner is trying to fool me into thinking it's an M3 either. This is because, firstly, it doesn't say M3, it just says M, and secondly, like I've said, the car has plenty of other identical badges on it already!
