Limited Slip Diffs
Howdy All,
THIS IS A CORRECTION TO MY ORIGINAL POST: I USED THE INCORRECT TERMINOLOGY TO DESCRIBE THE PERFORMANCE GEARING LS UNIT. IT IS A SALISBURY STYLE (CLUTCH DISCS), NOT A VISCOUS DESIGN. SORRY FOR ANY CONFUSION. Most of us with the 335i know that putting down the avialiable power can be a problem in many situations. Why BMW won't offer an M limited slip diff has to be logged in the "stubborn" column. I would gladly pay for it. I've found Jim Blanton @ www.performancegearing.com. Jim is a reknown BMW diff guru and has engineered a way to install a SALISBURY limited slip diff in the stock 335i housing. First a note about Quaiffe diffs. They are no doubt a quality, well built product. There is one MAJOR drawback: If a tire lifts (like taking a curb @ the track or an off-camber turn) the Quaiffe "goes open". It ceases transmitting power to ANY wheel until they're both back on the ground. I've seen one other source for 335i limited slips, but I believe they are more expensive and not as strong as the one's Performance Gearing has designed. I will provide feedback when I have enough miles on the car to do so. Last edited by jefftheskier; 06-05-2007 at 09:36 PM.. Reason: Correction to original terminology |
