I know this is a stupid question. But what's the opinion on differences of a 17" and 18" alloy. Can you really tell? I made an mistake of putting new tyres on my 16" 156 but now want to upgrade .
Not sure to upgrade to 17" or 18" .
Also what style should I aim for?
My BMW is a arctic colour. What rims and colour Can ppl suggest?

I upgraded from 16" SE alloys to 17" m sport wheels and saw a noticable difference, although it may be down to the fact that they are m sport rather than just another set of 17's. The ride is still the same and i thought they suited the car until the missus bought a new car with 18's and now mine look small :-D

I'm odd as i don't notice a difference between my 17" winters and my 19" summers. Apart from the 17" look wank.

Still just as stiff, which is down to the pre-lci suspension.

I would get 19" on good rubber as they look better.

There is an 18" design called ellipsoid which looks nice with Arctic.
Do a google image search for BMW Ellipsoid.

Just stick with a standard silver colour wheel. Hard to beat an 18" MV3 to keep the original look and you can buy very good replicas for a decent price if you want to keep the costs down.

I quite agree with keeping with MV3's for the original look. I'm struggling to find a more suitable wheel for a E90 SE. I been quoted £575 by a local place for a full set of replicas so likely going to go down this route when funds permit.

Also 225/40 18 tyres are quite affordable nowadays and probably easier to source than going for the original BMW staggered setup.

If you change the tyre size to something not on the plate then the insurance company will need to know (and most likely will rip you off) and BMW may get uppity too at some point, such as trade-in. SE's are allowed a non-staggered 17" setup but I don't think 225/18 all round is on the plate as an option, have a look. It is not on mine. A shame as it would doubtless drive better than staggered on most E90's.

Also if you go 225 all round you would ideally need to use the "front" wheels all round not the wider rears, again this may cause insurance issues...

I would say 17s or 18s, but that is just me.

Personally, I don't think you can beat an 18" 216

19s are great, but the ride and tyre price would put me off - unless you are someone really 'in to' your wheels!

Thanks , I will always put the originals back on when I trade or sell my car anyway.

I presume you have the se suspension? With 18" wheels the wheel arch gap may look a little too big so you may want to lower a tad. 17" should look fine though.

style 160 suit the arctic. I think it's a gorgeous colour, it can look a bit green when it's cloudy but when waxed, on a sunny day, it looks pretty
