No Bluetooth?
I have just got my 330D SE and having real problems trying to get BT working at all.
In the boot is a silver box VP6KAF - 14B409-DD (MULF Module) In the Dash is a BMW professional radio/CD As far as I can work out I go to the Menu, Select "Tele" then set up BT.... or Hold down phone for 3 secs....insert 'comfort key' ... hold for further 3 sec and release and it will start BT setup.... or .... However .... if I do either i get the Tele to light up wityh a telephone icon .... then it is replaced with two dashes "- -".... Sometimes .... if I hold down the tele softkey it will tell me I need to activate BT and has a softkey to press.... regardless of if it shows me this last part or not ..... it takes me back to whatever the stereo was doing before.... and doesn't activate BT. (If I was in radio it goes to radio... if I was on any other screen it just goes there) After a few hours messing about I removed the VP6KAF box for 30 mins (found a tip on here somewhere) and replaced it.... No help.... still the same thing happening! Can anyone help? Its an E90, 2006, 330D SE.... |

Um, not sure. Sounds stupid but at what stage of the stages in the manual is it failing at?

It seems to be the actual activiation of the BT....
I don't have a specific manual for the phone/BT and the stereo manual doesn't cover it, just refers to the manual I don't have!!! I found a few different posts for non iDrive enabled cars and tried almost all the options. I do know the battery was diconnected before I bought it as I had to set the clock to get rid of a warning... The car was sold as having BT and the MULF module certainly seems to be one plus the microphones all seem to be in place etc. It just doesn't want to activate the bluetooth..... even when the option is presented (for instance by holding down the phone softkey on the stereo or the phone on the steering wheel) the option disappears as soon as I press it.. The message is something like "Activate Bluetooth to use phone" Equally many times it doesn't even give me the option.....it just skips back to whatver the stereo unit was doing before.... I'm at a bit of a loss and wondering if I should take it to a BMW dealer but this is starting to sound expensive and I guess I'll buy a BT headset or something before that.... |

Find an indy who will plug into autologic and it will tell you if its working or not.

I have a 2010 e90 & as far as I'm aware the bluetooth goes on with the ignition & no way to switch it off. When the car Bt in "pairing mode", which is activated on the car by instructing it to pair (phone/Bluetooth devices/pair (or similar), the car Bt just becomes visible to the phone - the searching / pairing is done from the phone, Once the phone finds the car it goes through the handshaking & authorising proceedures & then done

I doubt that disconnecting the battery will do any harm other than resetting all parameters but you'll get the same result by removing the relevant fuse for a few minutes.

I have the same problem and trying to find an answer...
My details: BMW 320d 2005 E90 Auto Factory fitted BMW Professional Audio Sytem Non-iDrive Every minute or so, the audio system jumps/skips, whilst playing CDs, Radio and via AUX. The Bluetooth Telephone icon on the menu screen shows 2 dashes (--) instead of the phone icon. So you cannot connect/pair as I assume it thinks there is no bluetooth. This is the same problem... I think both the above problems are linked. Google suggests could be amp / ariel / battery or bluetooth reset / loose connection problem?! anyone with anymore info... |

Well, this is probably a job for someone with diagnostics as said before.
Or you'll be pissing in the wind frankly. I would however do the 30min battery off reset first. We had trouble once with the volume control and the BT not working and the hard reset fixed it. Did it once over a year ago, never happened again. Software - got to love it!

Removing the mulf has fixed the skipping problem described above but getting Bluetooth working is another question... I strongly suspect the simple answer is replacing the unit.... But if I'm doing that I also suspect it would be cheaper putting in a parrot or something? |

Mine ('55 E91 320d/Prof headunit, no idrive) has started doing exactly the same thing. No BT and audio (alpine upgrade) has also started playing up - I get a 1/2 second of silence every 30secs or so.
Am going to pull the boot floor up and have a wiggle of all the connectors first. Wonder if something is working it's way loose... Then it'll be head unit out and see if that's got a similar issue. |

Update.
Wiggled all connectors at both ends. Pulled the power for 45 minutes. The audio end of things has stopped doing the intermittent silence thing(for now), but no sign of the bluetooth at all. Interstingly the silence comes when it tries to search for the bluetooth box - like the OP I managed to get the phone symbol to come up briefly, then the silence would happen as it chopped back to the previous menu. I wonder if the head unit knows it should have a BT box available, hunts for it, then does a reset when it can't find it. Next stage I guess is to pull the BT box out and open it up. I've got 116k on the clock and it's not especially firmly mounted so it's possible it's a vibration/dry solder joint issue. |

Any word? My E92 has just started doing the same thing. The TEL menu displays '- -' and occasionally shows the telephone symbol briefly before disappearing while the radio cuts out for a fraction of a second.
Mark.

Was having same problem in my 2006 330i. Both the phone and assist icons had gone to "--". I have a pre-wired system with no iDrive.
I went to the fuse box, pulled fuse #17 (5 amp) and reinserted it. It worked again after that. Seemed like some of the fuses were a bit loose, so I pushed them back in. According to my diagram, there are three fuses associated with the phone system, but may be different for non-US models. Hope this helps, mine ended up being an easy fix. Hopefully it will last... |

Yank the power at the battery for a few minutes first to reinitialise all the modules.
You just need to update volatiles like date/time/country IIRC after.
