Car only plays certain songs from i-pod...
So I just got my car a few days ago, and I have the I-pod integration in the center console. Well, when I am searching thorugh the artists and albums ad such, I noticed that all of the songs I purchased from itunes are not there. The only artists/songs that show up on the display aare the one that I transfered from cd's to my i pod through i tunes. All of the songs downloaded from I tunes show up on the ipod itself, but not when connected to the car. How do I get the rest of the songs to play?

I am pretty sure you dont. Check with your service guy or read the manual. I mean why pay for 6FL if you cannot use it for the iPod in full?

as it has been said before: you need the proper cable. it is one that will connect to both ports, the USB AND the AUX port. Only then will it play your protected stuff. And yes: You will still be able to control your iPod through iDrive. In fact, the control will be even better if you use the right cable.

So did the dealer supply me the wrong cable then, or is it that I just need to go out and upgrade? There is only one spot to plug a cable into in the center console, so I dont know what you mean by plugging it into aux and usb. Sorry If i sound like a moron, I have no knowledge of electronics.

TML BMW, no problem. Look next to the USB plug. There is a small tiny and round plugin. Looks like a headphone plug. It is right next to the USB.
The special iPod cable should have been provided by your dealer. So go kick some butt there. Once you get the cable, plug one end into the iPod, and the other two ends (Y-cable) into the car. One is going to the USB, the other to the tiny round plug - that's the one that is called AUX (auxilary). Once you did this, the car will use the USB soley to remote control your iPod and read it's track database (which will then be displayed on your navigation screen). Once you tell the car to play a track, what happens is that the car will tell the iPod to play the track. The iPod will then output the sound to the AUX plug. Hope this makes it more clear. If not, keep shouting Cheers |

oh ok, thanks alot that makes sense now. The dealer supplied a cable but it isnt a Y cable, it only has one end on each side, one to the usb plug in and the other is open (this is where the guy told me to plug in the usb cable supplied with the i-pod). So should i go back in and tell them to give me the right Y cable?

Hold on a sec... so you mean to tell me that the iPod adapter is for control only, and that the audio is coming through the audio jack - not through the digital bottom connection?!?! I mean I'll find out the answer in 36 hours, but if so, that's ridiculous to pay for the iPod adapter |

So yes, the audio is coming from the audio jack. And whether you do the digital/analog conversion within the iPod or within the car's system doesn't matter to you, trust me. In fact, I would bet the D/A converter in the iPod is of superior nature to whatever is built into the car. As LedZep said. Relax. You are fine! |
